Keuka Lake Yacht Club is actively recruiting responsible team members to work on our KYC Race Committee this summer. Applicants must be age 14 .

Training is provided and some duties and qualifications are below. Sailboat handling or racing experience is preferred but not required. A NYS Boating Safety Certificate is required as well as skills handing a motor boat. Race Committee team members would need the ability to work Sat / Sun mornings with some flexibility on scheduling. This is a great way to learn about or get involved in sailboat racing.

Position Summary:

Under the direction and guidance of the KYC Race Committee Team Leader, Regatta PRO’s and Race Committee Co-Chairs, provides proper racecourse management in a safe and efficient manner. Sets, re-sets and pulls marks as needed. Starts and scores races. Accounts for Race Committee equipment and assists with refueling Race Committee boats when required. Provides rescue assistance to sailors/boats in distress. Attends scheduled training sessions. Maintains a professional attitude and works in a safe manner at all times.

Responsibilities:

Race Day Activities

• Assures that all Race Committee boats have proper safety items on board.
• Maintains a general knowledge of course management, including proper course change procedures, starting sequences and US Sail’s Racing Rules of Sailing.
• Assists with racecourse setup and modifications, including the setting, moving and pulling of marks.
• Assists with starting sequences as directed when stationed on the signal boat.
• Accounts for Race Committee equipment and promptly notifies Race Committee Team Leader of any lost or damaged equipment.
• Keeps Race Committee boats and storage area clean and organized.
• If scheduled, assists in the refueling of all Race Committee boats at the conclusion of weekend racing.
• Assists with sailors/boats in distress when called upon to do so.
• Works in a safe and professional manner at all times.

Other Responsibilities

• Attends KYC led training.
• Arrives at all schedule work shifts on time and with proper footwear and life jacket.
• Assists with other KYC projects while under postponement.
• Works in a safe and professional manner at all times.

Qualifications:

• NYS Boater’s Safety Certificate
• General safe boating experience
• Some sailboat handling or racing experience preferred
• Ability to work summer weekends including holidays with flexibility on scheduling

Job Types: Part-time, Seasonal

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 6 – 12 per week
