Kern Medical is Hiring a Surgical Technologist Coordinator- Operating Room- Full Time-Shift Near Bakersfield, CA

Position: Surgical Technologist Coordinator -Operating Room

Compensation

The estimated pay for this position is $39.4395 to $48.5057. The rates shown include a 6% premium pay (base= $-$ plus 6%). This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses. In addition, this position may be eligible for participation and company contributions into the Kern County Employees’ Retirement Plan.

Definition:

The Surgical Technologist Coordinator will work under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services and in accordance with the Board of Registered Nursing, under administrative supervision of the Operations Manager of the Operating Room. The Surgical Technologist Coordinator will assist in the providing quality intraoperative care to surgical patients, serve as a surgery technologist educator and resource person for surgery staff.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

This classification will have an advanced level of expertise and experience in surgical techniques and use of the surgical equipment and instrumentation. This classification must be able to provide surgery assistance using the surgical robotic equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the standards and protocols for use and maintenance of the surgical equipment and instruments.
  • Provide input and recommendations in the design and ongoing operations of the surgical programs.
  • Act as clinical instructor and educational resource to surgical technicians/technologists and other clinical staff related to the use and technical components of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Precept surgical technician/technologist students, new surgical technicians/technologists during orientation and those in need of supplemental education.
  • Assists with other duties within scope of practice during procedures including use of robotic equipment.
  • Prepares operating room surgical equipment.
  • Prepares patients for procedures.

Other Functions:

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Employment Standards:

Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program and possession of a current Surgical Technologist national certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting

AND

Seven (7) years experience as a surgical technician in a hospital setting or surgical center, two (2) years of which must have been in the use and education of robotic equipment such as a DaVinci Surgical System. Two (2) years’ experience in Vascular Surgery, or Vascular trauma surgery preferred. trained in Laser preferred.

Surgical robotic training and experience must have been obtained within the last five (5) years. Vascular training and experience within last five (5) years.

Experience in the training and education of other surgical technicians is preferred.

Appointees not possessing the American Heart Association Responder or Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire must successfully complete appropriate training and qualify for the RQI Responder certification within 30 days of employment. As a continued condition of employment, employee must maintain RQI Responder certification and competency.

As a condition of continued employment, employees must maintain, at all times, all health and other regulatory requirements designated by Kern Medical Center.

Knowledge of:

Operating room techniques, methods and use of robotic equipment and apparatus, positioning of patients for procedures, surgical sanitation, and development of educational materials and methods of educating clinical staff. 

Ability to: 

Work effectively and efficiently in emergencies.
