POSITION: Performance Improvement Coordinator (RN) - Full-time - Quality Performance Improvement

Compensation

The estimated pay for this position is $46.9617 to $73.1648. The rates shown include a 6% premium pay (base= $-$ plus 6%). This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses. In addition, this position may be eligible for participation and company contributions into the Kern County Employees’ Retirement Plan.

Definition:

Under general direction of performance improvement leadership, participates in the coordination of clinical and/or operational performance improvement activities within the acute care setting, outpatient services, or a special department as assigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

Incumbents in this position support and/or facilitate the identification of performance gaps and potential evidence-based performance improvement initiatives. Strong time management, interpersonal communication and leadership skills are essential.

Essential Functions:

  • Acts as a clinical performance improvement resource.
  • Works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to identify opportunities for improvement, develop solutions and influence change.
  • Coordinates and/or facilitates planning, development, implementation and monitoring of performance improvement initiatives following performance improvement methodology (PDSA).
  • Remains abreast of healthcare standards and evidence-based practice to ensure regulatory compliance and optimize performance.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary staff and stakeholders throughout the organization to ensure initiatives are founded in recognized industry standards and best-practices.
  • Assists in workflow design, data dissemination and communication of shared learning.
  • Develops presentations and educational materials relevant to the target audience.
  • Coaches providers, nurses and ancillary staff related to performance improvement initiatives.
  • Abstracts, analyzes, reviews and reports audit findings/charting trends related to pre-defined metrics.
  • Provides real time feedback and intervention with providers, clinical and ancillary staff to ensure optimal quality patient care.
  • Facilitates inter and intradepartmental communication about performance improvement and provides follow-up to promote compliance with improvement initiatives.
  • In collaboration with the Data Analysis, Reporting and Integrity department, performs data analysis to determine benchmarks, drive actions and define expected outcomes.
  • Participates in development of meaningful measurement plans to trend process and outcome measures.
  • Tracks action plans to ensure timely project progression and facilitate data-driven decision making.
  • Utilizes critical thinking to proactively take action on individual cases not meeting metric requirements.
  • Collaborates with stakeholder to ensure sustainability of improvement initiatives.
  • Tailors data and reporting to intended audience with minimal supervision.
  • Educates staff regarding performance improvement methodology.

Other Functions:

  • Performs other related job duties and special projects as required.

Employment Standards:

Education: Graduation from an accredited registered nursing program.

License: Possess and maintain valid, unrestricted license issued by the State of California to practice as a Registered Nurse OR possess valid, unrestricted temporary license issued by the State of California to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Certifications: Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) card issued by the American Heart Association.

Experience: Minimum three (3) years overall registered nursing experience, two (2) of which must have occurred in an acute care setting. Six (6) years of relevant department specific (Performance Improvement/Quality) LVN level experience may also be substituted for RN experience requirement.

A specialty certification is highly desirable, particularly that of Certified Professional in Health Care Quality (CPHQ).

LEAN or Six Sigma Greenbelt is highly desirable.

Employees must maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical.

Knowledge of:

Modern principles, methods and practices of nursing; research related to patient safety, patient satisfaction, evidence based practice; development, application and uses of nursing records, reports and statistics; principles of education, in-service training and competency development for professional and allied nursing personnel; modern hospital organization, medical terminology, performance improvement methodology and tools such as PDSA, Lean, Statistical Process Control Analysis, Microsoft Office: (Excel, Power Point, Windows), MIDAS, State and Federal Regulatory Standards

Ability to:

Work autonomously, simultaneously coordinate multiple activities, problem solve, provide leadership, provide conflict management, team build, establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other individuals and groups, other departments and agencies; prepare clear, concise and comprehensive written reports; communicate both orally and in writing; participate in public speaking events.
