By joining our District 5 Equipment Section as a Transportation Auto Truck Technician I in Shelby County,you’ll have the opportunity to perform general maintenance and repairs on automotive, medium, and / or heavyequipment.

Holders of the Transportation Auto Truck Technician I position will complete tasks such as :

  • Maintains automotive vehicles and equipment by replacing batteries and performing tune-ups.
  • Maintains automotive vehicles and equipment replacing and adjusting head and taillights.
  • Maintains automotive vehicles and equipment checking fluids and lubricants, changing filters and belts.
  • Maintains automotive vehicles and equipment changing, repairing, and rotating tires, and checking tireair pressure.

Holders of this job will obtain the following skills :

  • Inspect and analyze automotive vehicles and equipment for repairs and service.
  • Complete repairs and servicing reports.
  • Perform complex duties by assisting higher-level technicians in functions such as disassembling,repairing, and assembling engines.
  • Perform complex duties by assisting higher-level technicians in functions such as disassembling,repairing, and assembling transmissions.

Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in the repair of automotive equipment
  • Technical Skills
  • Experience working with hand tools

Physical effort is required in the performance of automotive vehicle and equipment repairs. Incumbents workingin this job title perform work in a repair facility or field setting.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS : Must have two years of automotive / equipment / truck repair technical experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE : Vocational or technical school training in automotive / truck repair or a related area will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION : NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.) : Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.

Employees in this job classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority within six months of employment in the job classification, documentation that he or she possesses a valid Class A commercial driver's license.

Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
