By joining the Division of Driver Licensing as a Transportation Hearing Officer in Hopkins County, you will conduct informal hearings to determine the action taken regarding an individual’s driving privilege.
Holders of the Transportation Hearing Officer position will complete tasks such as:
  • Schedule and hold informal hearings to determine a driver’s eligibility for probation or suspension. Includes swearing in the witness and taking sworn testimony.
  • Interpret, train and issue federal and state laws, regulations, policies and procedures that relate to the Division of Driver License.
  • Provide professional customer service for all Driver License services through phone, email, faxes and walk in customers.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
  • Obtain experience vetting legal identity documents.
  • Obtain enhanced professional customer service skills
  • Obtain a background in working with government policies and regulations
  • Obtain accounting skills with reconciling and reporting daily fees
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
  • Experience with hearings, court and identity verification
  • Experience with collecting money and providing a service
  • Experience with record analysis and data management in processing systems
  • Experience providing professional customer service and training to subordinates
This is a desk position with minimal standing, stooping, bending and lifting involved and some travel required.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of administrative, research, law enforcement and/or investigative experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Completion of a bachelor's or master's degree in law will substitute for the required experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Administrative, law enforcement, research and/or investigative experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment in this classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title generally perform work in an office or court setting. Some travel required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
