Description

The Facilities Division is hiring an Environmental Scientist IV that serves as the technical/scientific advisor for Water Quality Management, storage tanks, and air programs in the Environmental office and provides support and technical training to departmental staff for interpretation and implementation of environmental compliance requirements.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Manages, reviews and updates locations Spill Prevention and Countermeasure Control Plans (SPCCPS), Groundwater Protection Plans (GPPSs) Mobil Fueler Spill Prevention and (SPCCPS) and water quality compliance plans.
  • Conducts site visits inspections develops corrective actions, resolves Environmental Performance Assessment System (EPAS) deficiency findings.
  • Assists withespill cleanups as assigned.
  • Manages program for above ground/underground tanks, oil/water separators and wash racks.
  • Coordinates permitting, testing/monitoring, training reporting, repairs/maintenance and contracting for Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and non-capitalized locations.
  • Technicals/scientific advisor for the Air Quality and Asbestos Program.
  • Conducts site visits, assesses training needs, resolves deficiencies, review air emission inventory data, asbestos inspection/notifications, and serves as technical advisor for air emission reporting and training requirements.
  • Researches and develops and updates procedures and policies to support programs, collects, reviews and maintains appropriate laws, regulations, ordinances and guidance in specialty areas.
  • Provides technical assistance and information to departmental personnel to support environmental and eMs (Environmental Management System) programs.
  • Attends required training and assist with construction review.
  • Manages erosion control program, reviews construction plans, coordinates permitting/monitoring, and reviews Stormwater Best Management Practices Plans.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in a natural, biological or physical science OR Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 20 semester hours in a natural, biological or physical science.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Five years of experience in natural resources, environmental control, or a related area.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in a natural, biological, or physical science will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in natural resources, environmental control, engineering, or a related area will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office setting. Incumbents in this class may perform work in the field with frequent travel on a statewide basis. An incumbent in the position may be subject to adverse weather conditions, exposure to snake and insect bites, water-borne pathogens, broken glass, and rusty metal in streams. Electrocution from electro-fishing equipment is possible.
