Kenton County Fiscal Court is Hiring a Parks Weekend Seasonal Maintenance Laborer/Trustee Near Independence, KY

Deadline to Apply: Open until filled

Compensation will be set commensurate with credentials.

This is a part-time weekend position from April 1 through November 30 involving unskilled and skilled work for the maintenance of county parks and recreational areas. An employee in this class is responsible for performing general maintenance tasks for the successful upkeep of the grounds and facilities in the county parks. Duties are performed under standard supervision and involve weekend and holiday assignments, not to exceed 24 hours a week. Reports to an assigned supervisor.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift forty (80) pounds or more to a height of four (4) feet or more.
  • Must be able to work extended periods of time using heavy duty powered hand tools such as chain saws, weed eaters, etc. or to use hand tools such as hammers, shovels, rakes, etc., often under adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Eye sight must be correctable to 20/20 vision.
  • Hearing must be within normal acceptable range of 20-25 with or without a hearing aid.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Prepares park and recreational areas for the safe use of the public by performing maintenance tasks including cleaning shelters, restrooms and related facilities, and performing minor building maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Performs park grounds maintenance activities including trash removal, landscaping, occasional mowing, and litter control.
  • Assists in the maintenance of sports fields and park grounds.
  • Performs painting of park structures and makes minor repairs as needed; paints guard rails, fences, and other structures.
  • Keeps vehicles and equipment cleaned, serviced and in good operating condition; performs minor field maintenance as may be required and reports needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Installs and maintains park signs and markers.
  • Maintains landscape areas including mulching, edging, weeding and planting flowers, trees, and plants when needed.
  • Operates various types of motorized equipment including carts and mowers.
  • Performs manual maintenance tasks using handheld equipment and tools such as string trimmers, pruning shears, shovels, rakes, ect.
  • When directed, assists with traffic and crowd control at various park and recreation events.
  • Greet park patrons to provide a positive first impression including guests that reserve shelter houses.
  • Performs related duties as required.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to get along with others in the work place or crew and to respect their rights as individuals.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with individuals; ability to comprehend simple verbal orders and to perform the directed task.
  • Ability to read and/or view training materials and safety information and to comprehend same.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and the ability to apply them in work day situations.
  • Knowledge of the equipment and tools used to perform the required daily work operations and the ability to use them in a productive manner. Also, knowledge of basic field maintenance procedures necessary to keep equipment, tools, etc. in good working condition.
  • Some knowledge related to general grounds keeping activities including such things as planting grass, flowers and trees, mowing and trimming grass, trimming and pruning flowers shrubs or trees, is desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively on a daily basis with standard supervision.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of a standard high school or the equivalency, supplemented by work experience; or any combination of training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities.
