Job Title: Math Specialist
Full Time, 215-day contract
The work of the Mathematics Specialist will be to advocate for and support high quality curriculum, assessment, and instruction for all students via coaching, consulting, and facilitating individuals/groups. Through this work, the specialist will provide leadership in all areas of K-12 mathematics; including program planning, progress monitoring, and evaluating impact. The Mathematics Specialist will be able to identify evidence-based practice for improving instruction and develop these skills with educators. In order to provide continual support, the specialist will facilitate these teacher groups continually by analyzing lesson plans, student work, and reflecting to continue to improve teaching and learning throughout the course of the school year.
Essential Job Qualifications Required:1. Valid Michigan teacher certification
2. Minimum of five years of experience teaching K-12 mathematics - Preferred
3. Master's degree in mathematics -Preferred
4. Understanding of K-12 state mathematics standards
5. Demonstrated teacher leadership skills
6. Experience facilitating learning in groups
7. Able to demonstrate a personal focus on teaching and learning mathematics
8. Able to coach individuals in curriculum, assessment, and instruction
9. Able to support Tier I, Tier 2, and Tier 3 mathematics teaching and learning
10. Able to use observational data and formative assessment processes to guide professional learning
11. Communication, organizational and networking skills required
12. Must possess excellent organizational skills, technology skills, be detail and team oriented
Key Duties and Responsibilities:1. The specialist will work collaboratively with Kent ISD mathematics consultant and stakeholders to support teaching and learning of mathematics.
2. The specialist will identify and utilize data to inform decision making ensuring high quality teaching and learning of mathematics at the local, regional, and state level.
3. The specialist will support progress monitoring and evaluation of implementation fidelity of selected evidence-based instructional strategies, practice, and curriculum.
4. The specialist will continue to develop deep content and pedagogical knowledge in the evidence-based learner-centered approach to instruction.
5. The specialist will provide coaching to support continuous improvement of classroom, school, and district practices.
6. The specialist will facilitate professional development, working with educators to refine their knowledge and skills. Professional development could include, but not be limited to observing, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teacher groups in looking at student work, developing lesson plans with teacher groups based on student needs, supporting data analysis, supporting the integration of technology, co-planning with teacher groups, etc.
7. The specialist will communicate clearly and concisely with all stakeholders, both orally and in writing
