Summary: This teacher will serve as a second language specialists within the EL district team by maintaining a high knowledge base of the latest research, laws, best practices, and issues within the EL field.
Education/Qualifications:
Valid Michigan Teaching Certification with NS Endorsement;
Training/Experience/Responsibilities:
Ability to make recommendations to staff regarding accommodations, adaptations, resources, course, classes and classroom adjustments appropriate for each EL student;
Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs;
Plan and implement lessons based upon school objectives and students' abilities;
Ability to implement all procedures of the EL Program;
Ability to work with English learning students individually and in small groups, both inside and outside of the general classroom setting;
Ability to establish and maintain a daily routine suitable for students' needs and adjust as needed;
Maintain appropriate and required student documentation;
Administer state and federal assessments required for EL learners;
Effectively function and regularly collaborate as a member of an instructional team;
Effectively communicate and develop positive relationships with parents, students, and staff;
Ability to relate and work effectively with parents, staff, students, and the public in a multicultural and multiracial community;
Knowledge and awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others;
Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the District;
Ability to recognize that each person is a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage;
