    Job Title: EARLY INTERVENTIONIST – Specialist
    Kent ISD Early On
    Teacher Consultant for the Visually Impaired preferred
    Serves as Primary Service Provider for Early On children (age birth-3 with developmental delays and/or disabilities) and families, acts as a service coordinator for eligible children, participates as a member of the Early On Evaluation Team and facilitates Early On parent education groups.
    Essential Job Qualifications Required:
    • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate and willingness to join the Visual Impairment Consortium for Teacher Preparation OR willingness to enroll in an approved program to obtain credential strongly preferred.
    • Ability to interact well with young children and families in diverse contexts with knowledge in child development.
    • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, and must have excellent evaluation and assessment skills.
    • Must have interpersonal skills necessary to understand and use Family Centered Practices in home and community settings.
    • Must possess excellent organizational, problem solving and technological skills.
    Key Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Provides multidisciplinary evaluations (Early On Evaluation and Special Education Assessment and Evaluation), home-based services, and Individual Family Service Plan IFSP/Individual Education Plan IEP meetings and community services/resources for children with developmental delays or disabilities and/or established conditions and their families.
    • Maintains Early On records for children, and completes appropriate paperwork for compliance with Kent ISD and Michigan rules and regulation for Early On services, including progress monitoring.
    • Actively participates in regular Primary Service Provider team meetings.
    • Acts as on-going Service Coordinator for Part C and MMSE eligible children using a parent-coaching, routined based approach.
    • Maintains up-to-date knowledge and information on services for infants and toddlers with special needs and their families and serves as liaison between service providers’ families and/or referral sources.
    • Coordinates and facilitates Early On parent education groups and community-based activities, communicates with other parent education group staff, assists families in the enrollment in groups, helps facilitate transportation and provides families with information regarding the groups, community services and appropriate medical referrals.
    Environment:
    Must be able to drive personal vehicle to home visits, meetings, and community groups throughout Kent ISD. Duties are performed in the child’s home and community settings (both indoor and outdoor).
    Physical Demands:
    • Physical, mental, and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position under sometimes stressful conditions.
    • Vision sufficient to read printed materials. Seeing to read, prepare and proofread documents and perform assigned duties.
    • Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
    • Ascending and descending stairs, kneeling, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally as needed.
    • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment.
    • Sitting on various surfaces (including floor), or standing for extended periods of time.
    • Lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
    • Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.
