Kent Intermediate School District is Hiring an Instructor - Teacher Academy Near Grand Rapids, MI

BROAD STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The education instructor shall design, prepare and deliver curriculum in alignment with the State of Michigan Curriculum as regulated by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth while maintaining an instructional environment focus on post-secondary preparation for an education or CTE curriculum major for junior and senior high school students within Kent County, Michigan school districts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Obtain, or eligible for Interim Occupational Certificate with appropriate industry certification or licensure. OR have a minimum of 4,000 hours (within the last 6 years) of recent and relevant work experience in an educational setting.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree with Teaching Certification as part of a program of study.
  3. Master’s Degree or intent to obtain a Master’s degree in an education-related area preferred.
  4. Demonstrated leadership; leading teacher development, curriculum development, educational leadership, special education, interventionist trainer, benchmark assessing/progress monitoring experience, coaching, and/or new teacher training preferred.
  5. Master teacher/lead/ department head teacher preferred

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Per GVSU for dual enrollment: The instructor should have a graduate degree in Educational Foundations or a closely related field such as history, philosophy, anthropology, sociology of education, cultural studies, urban education, etc. Their undergrad should be in teaching with Social Studies or related fields (ex. Psychology, Sociology, History, Geography). It is also important to have at least three years P-12 teaching experience after obtaining their master’s degree.”
  2. Instructional Coaching experience preferred

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Design, prepare, and deliver curriculum content that:
    1. Is in alignment with the State of Michigan and the Kent ISD/KCTC curriculum constructs.
    2. Supports student learning through a variety of delivery methods: project-based learning, on-line, in person.
    3. Incorporates equipment and technology current to education models.
    4. Supports programs’ focus on preparing students for post-secondary education experiences such as PBL, Equity, Inclusion, Restorative Practices, Distinguished teacher pedagogical knowledge, etc.
    5. Incorporates cross-curricular concepts of Math, English, Science.
  2. Maintain an instructional environment that is:
    1. Safe
    2. Promotes learning opportunities for all.
    3. Provides for an equitable and balanced assessment of student achievement by a variety of methods.
    4. Promotes individual student responsibility and accountability.
  3. Fosters relationships with students, parents, sending schools, host teachers, host principals, mentor teachers, and post-secondary partners.
  4. Markets program to potential diverse populations, participates in open houses at KCTC.
  5. Maintain program documentation including but not limited to chemical and equipment inventory and maintenance, purchase records and budget, curriculum standards, and course syllabi.
  6. Administer tests to evaluate pupil progress, record results, and issue reports to inform parents of progress.
  7. Keep attendance records.
  8. Remain current with reporting requirements, trends, and changes in CTE education.
  9. Create and collaborate with an advisory committee.
  10. Meet with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
  11. Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  12. Perform related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting course of study, and counseling student in adjustment and academic problems.
  13. Facilitate work based learning experiences for students (field trips, job shadows, internships, job placement).
  14. Promote and market the Teacher Academy program and overall KCTC programs.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. Capable of leading, coaching, and mentoring students through on-line and in-person professional learning, and leading mentor teachers through development.
  2. Foundational knowledge of educational settings appropriate for student placement: urban, rural, special education, career technical education, etc. and deep knowledge of educational pedagogy.
  3. Strong communication skills (written and verbal). Work-based learning is beneficial.
  4. Ability to develop and deliver professional learning curriculum to novice teachers and adult mentors (Instructional Coaching).
  5. Experience with or proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
  6. Experience with diverse learners.
  7. Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities. Demonstrates the ability to examine the impact of education inequities in student achievement outcomes as it aligns with race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
  8. Demonstrated relationship with multiple stakeholders.
  9. Ability to become adjunct faculty for colleagues & universities.
  10. Preference for delivery of MTSS and Social Emotional Learning leadership or school coaching.

Placement on the BA scale is required unless candidate holds a valid State of Michigan Standard CTE teaching certificate. (BA Step 1-5 = $48,819-$59,260/year).

  • Placement on BA 18, MA, or MA lanes is considered after receipt of a valid State of Michigan Standard CTE teaching certificate, per Master Agreement.
