Are you ready for the glamorous, red carpet world of wastewater treatment? You won't read many job ads with a humorous introduction.

The Kent County Levy Court—the county government serving Kent County, Delaware—is unique in more than just its name. We’re creative and fun (at least by government standards).

We are searching for our next Director of Public Works. Department of Public Works (DPW) is one of the largest County departments managing a regional 20 mgd wastewater treatment plant and an engineering division. Our DPW does not maintain roads, bridges, or other utilities like water. The DPW Director is an executive level position. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with a track record of results. This includes building collaborative relationships inside and outside of the organization and consistently move complex projects from idea to completion. DPW faces a huge range of challenges from improving infrastructure to implementing new technologies to recruiting and retaining outstanding workers. A solid technical background in wastewater is good; the ability to lead is better and to close out projects is better.

The County has made a strategic decision not to require a Professional Engineer (PE) credential. We have PEs on our team. We can hire outside engineers when needed. The current market for executive talent in Public Works is highly competitive. Because we don’t have unlimited resources, we’re trying to maximize our candidate pool. We don’t have a salary range. What we have is a hope that $150,000/year, outstanding benefits, and a working environment certified to be 100% micromanagement free will draw some great candidates. For consideration, please submit an engaging cover letter that gives us a sense of who you are and a resume to: hr@kentcountyde.gov.

Direct deposit of pay required. Job descriptions can be obtained at the Kent County Human Resources Office, 555 Bay Road, Dover, DE (302) 744-2310 or via the County web-site
