What is an Optician?

As an optician at Kennedy Eyecare, you will play a crucial role in providing personalized eyewear solutions to our patients. You will utilize your expertise to interpret prescriptions, assist patients in choosing suitable frames, and ensure precise fitting and alignment of lenses. An Optician possesses knowledge of various lens options, enhancements, and treatments to provide the best possible recommendations to our patients in order to achieve optimal vision and comfort. An Optician is also responsible for thoroughly interpreting and communicating a patient's insurance benefits and out-of-pocket costs to ensure a transparent experience.

Responsibilities and Duties

As an Optician at Kennedy Eyecare, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Assisting patients in selecting eyewear frames and lenses based on their visual needs, prescription, and personal style preferences
  • Conducting accurate measurements to ensure precise lens fitting and alignment
  • Advising patients on lens options, coatings, and treatments
  • Educating patients on proper eyewear care, maintenance, and cleaning techniques
  • Adjusting and fitting eyewear frames to ensure optimal comfort, alignment, and vision correction
  • Troubleshooting and resolving minor eyewear issues
  • Processing eyewear orders, tracking inventory, and maintaining accurate records
  • Collaborating with optometrists and other team members to ensure seamless patient care and satisfaction

Qualifications

This is an entry-level position. Training will be provided upon hire. However, there are a few traits we'd like you to have:

What You Will Learn

At Kennedy Eyecare, we provide on-the-job paid training for all positions. Upon hire, you will be trained by various team members along with your appropriate department lead and will receive periodic reviews over a 90 day period. As an Optician, you will learn:

  • Our practice management system, including efficient scheduling, appointment management, and accurate maintenance of patient records.
  • Procedures involved in assisting patients with eyewear selection, fitting, adjustments, and repairs.
  • Excellent customer service skills, both in-person and through phone interactions, to provide a superior patient experience and address their needs effectively.
  • Medical and vision coding for billing and insurance purposes, ensuring accurate and efficient ordering and processing of claims.

  • This position is for our McAlester location, however, all Kennedy Eyecare employees may be occasionally required to travel to one of our other locations if needed.
