About this role:

With guidance and support from the Independent Living (IL) Social Worker, the Independent Living Youth Mentor provides supportive community mentoring services to program participants. Assists the program participant in planning and implementing services that lead to the development of skills in preparation for their transition to independence. Promote individuals' growth in their areas of interest, decision making, community engagement, and personal accomplishments.

Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 10 am - 6 pm

In this role, you will get to:

  • Work one on one with a program participant.
  • Support the program participant in learning about the resources in their community and how to access them.
  • Learn and adhere to the Kennedy-Donovan Center and the Department of Children and Families (DCF) philosophy and mission statements.
  • Develop a respectful and trusting rapport with youth. 
  • Participate in the development of treatment plans.
  • Provide advocacy for individuals as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal and external community resources and providers to ensure safe and appropriate placement services. 
  • Participate in team meetings.
  • Comply with all KDC and DCF documentation requirements.
  • Participate and co-lead monthly IL trainings held at KDC.
  • Provide transportation to identified appointments.
  • Assist with job search.
  • Support engagement in recreational activities. 
  • Provide organizational assistance if indicated in treatment planning.
  • Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.

We are looking for people who have:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in the Human Services field preferred or 2 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Driver's License and reliable vehicle.
  • Strong Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to community-based supports to individuals.
  • Able to meet required competency level in Microsoft Office software.
  • Knowledge of community resources available to assist participants in achieving their goals.
