Kennebec Behavioral Health is Hiring a Peer Support Partner Near Augusta, ME

Kennebec Behavioral Health, named as one of the Best Places to Work in Maine for 2021, 2022 and 2023, is currently seeking a Peer Support Partner (PSP) to join our Behavioral Health Home (BHH) team in the Augusta/Winthrop area. This position works as a member of a multidisciplinary team that supports people seeking their best life.

Peer Support Partners are individuals who are receiving, or have received, services and supports related to the diagnosis of a mental illness, is in recovery from that illness, and who is willing to self-identify on this basis with BHH members. We use a person-centered, strengths approach in exploring wellness, and discover new ways of thinking about how we want to engage life. PSP’s partner one-on-one with people in a community setting, at an appointment, or in their homes. We work together to develop a mutual connection, where we practice different ways to relate, speak our truth, and advocate for what we need.

PSP’s may be asked to facilitate groups in various topics related to the setting in which we work, including topics such as wellness, recovery, boundaries, self-esteem, healthy relationships or developing personal hopes, goals, dreams and values. We partner with people to connect them to wellness/recovery opportunities in the community. We do NOT conduct assessment, make evaluations, or do for people. Instead, we partner with people to help them help themselves. We also keep confidentiality as one of the guiding principles, valuing “Nothing About Us Without Us.” We use our connections to build mutually supportive relationships that allow both of us to grow and learn together.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred. License/Certifications: Peer support staff may function as a CIPSS without CIPSS certification for the first nine (9) months of functioning as a CIPSS, but may not continue functioning as a CIPSS beyond nine (9) months without: (a) having received provisional certification by completion of the Core training, and (b) continuing pursuit of full certification as a CIPSS and maintaining certification as an Intentional Peer Support Specialist according to requirements as defined by SAMHS.

Employment is contingent on the above certification guidelines, a current driver’s license and reliable transportation and adequate car insurance.

Experience: one-on-one direct peer service and/or group facilitation is preferred. Can model strengths-based interactions and treat all individuals with respect and dignity.

Willingness to further develop communication skills (i.e. written, verbal, and computer.)

· Demonstrated ability to focus on continual learning and growth.

· Computer proficiency needed - ability to do basic computer skills in Microsoft Office and Outlook email.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with a variety of volunteers, fellow co-workers, and recovery communities.

· Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
