DEFINITION
The Traffic Officer performs work involving the protection of life and property, enforcement of state laws and city ordinances as they apply to the Bellevue Collection and the interests of Kemper Development Company. Traffic work also involves the maintenance of order, the direction of vehicles and related tasks, and a high visibility in the parking garages, with emphasis in keeping traffic flowing smoothly. Officers must display a positive attitude toward duties involving traffic and related matters at all times.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK:
Employees in this classification perform operating level duties as licensed “Security Officers” through the State of Washington on a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week basis. (Attendance is a significant issue in this job classification.) Work varies, but is generally governed by department rules, regulations and operating procedures, with job performance reviewed regularly by the Traffic/Security Manager.
The Traffic Officer is expected to act with a great deal of independence and initiative in daily performance of his/her duties, continuously demonstrating and maintaining proficiency in all traffic related tasks. Officers will be tested on their knowledge and asked to demonstrate certain skills at regular intervals. English language required.

Traffic work involves walking, running, talking, hearing, smelling, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Periodically, the Traffic Officer will be required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. Normal color vision is required as well as close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, night vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. (Hearing is critical to success in this job classification.)
The employee must be able to enter and exit vehicles quickly while carrying approximately 15 pounds of equipment. In response to crimes in progress, fire alarms, medical emergencies, etc., the employee must be able to run. Manual dexterity, coupled with good hand and arm strength is required to use traffic control devices, light flares, flashlights, perform CPR or administer First Aid, etc. The Traffic Officer will be required to lift objects and/or persons in excess of 50lbs on occasion and stand for extended periods when directing traffic and/or controlling crowds at special events.
Traffic Officers will be exposed to extreme weather conditions such as: heat, cold, rain and at times, potentially dangerous environments, diseases, chemicals, and excessive noise.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
NOTE: This position is considered a safety sensitive position for which impairment while working presents a substantial risk of death under the Washington State Law. Therefore, successful candidates will be required to pass a satisfactory background check and a drug screen (including cannabis).
