Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the Accounting Director performs accounting and financial reporting functions, and maintenance of accounting records for assigned properties. Work varies, but is generally governed by department rules, regulations, and operating procedures, with job performance reviewed regularly by the Controller. The Accounting Director is expected to act with a great deal of independence and initiative in daily performance of their duties, continuously demonstrating and maintaining proficiency in all accounting related tasks, while working in harmony with fellow employees and fostering teamwork whenever possible.

As Accounting Director, you will:

  • Month end close – Complete month end close in accordance with the monthly accounting calendar; includes oversight of the A/R and A/P close and creation of all month end journal entries.
  • Monthly Reporting Package – Produce the standard monthly reporting package for review by Controller, budget managers and the Executive Committee. Included in this package are financial statements, sales information, CAM schedules, capital expenditure activity, variance analysis, etc.
  • AR/AP – Work with and direct these department personnel to ensure property AR and AP processes are handled in a timely and effective manner.
  • Fixed Asset Accounting – Maintenance of property fixed asset activity in FAS system and reconciliation of FAS reports to the general ledger.
  • Deferred Costs and Prepaid Expenses – Track and depreciate/amortize as required on a monthly basis.
  • Account Reconciliations – Bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts are to be reconciled on a monthly basis.
  • Collections – Coordinate monthly A/R meetings and provide accounting information, analysis, and support on collection issues; coordinate follow-up with A/R staff on collection issues and tenant account review and reconciliations.
  • Cash Management – Maintain cash management schedules and projections.
  • Legal documentation, lease administration, and compliance – Understand legal agreements associated with assigned properties; understand all financial aspects of leases and ensure all leases are properly set up in MRI in compliance with lease documents; prepare necessary reports coinciding to specific requirements of various agreements.
  • Budgets and Forecasts – Coordinate the collection and compilation of budget data for preparation of annual plans and budgets. Work with budget managers throughout the year to gather information for preparing and updating budgets, forecasts, and projections.
  • State and Local Tax Compliance – Ensure timely compliance with state and local reporting requirements as applicable.
  • Tax and Audit Support – Prepare schedules and reports for external auditors and tax accountants; aid them in answering questions and compiling information.
  • Loan Compliance - regular review and reporting associated with lender financing requirements.
  • Sales – track, review, analyze, and report on monthly tenant sales applicable to assigned properties.
  • Other – Miscellaneous projects and tasks as assigned.

Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of English grammar, usage, and spelling.
  • Ability to determine priorities among simultaneous requests and messages.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to learn new procedures and adapt existing ones to new situations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to type at a reasonable speed with accuracy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, cordial, working relationships.
  • Strong organization, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills - experienced with Networks, Accounting systems, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word.
  • Experience with MRI Real Estate Accounting software a plus.

Qualifications: 

Education: 4 year Accounting Degree and CPA preferred

Experience: 3-5 years of experience in accounting.
