POSITION SUMMARY:

The National Institutes of Health is seeking a highly skilled chemist specializing in organic chemistry to join our dynamic research team. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry or Organic Chemistry with at least three years of related experience. This role involves designing, synthesizing, and optimizing chemical probes to improve potency and solubility, developing synthetic routes for target molecules, and producing chemical libraries to support biological assays. The successful candidate will also be responsible for scaling up chemical probes for further studies and developing probes with linkers for conjugation to various reporters. This position requires strong collaboration skills to ensure timely completion of research projects and effective communication within the bioorganic chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, and pharmacology communities. Responsibilities include publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at relevant scientific meetings.

TASKS. The contractor shall:

  • Design, synthesize, and optimize chemical probes for enhanced potency and solubility.
  • Devise synthetic routes for target molecules and produce chemical libraries ranging from 10 to 100 members with acceptable purity.
  • Scale up chemical probes of interest for in-depth studies.
  • Develop chemical probes with linkers for conjugation to fluorescent reporters and other groups.
  • Search chemical databases for relevant journal articles, patents, and related technologies.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure the timely completion of research projects.
  • Publish and present research findings within the community of bioorganic chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, and pharmacology.
  • Co-author manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of three years of post-doctoral experience in a relevant field.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office for data analysis and presentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute complex organic syntheses.
  • Experience in developing and scaling up synthetic processes.
  • Proven track record of publishing in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, for effective collaboration and dissemination of research findings.
