Job Summary

The primary purpose of the full time General Occupational Technical Studies (GOTS) Instructor – Faculty employee responsibilities include sponsoring student organizations, committee work and other institutional services, community service, and professional development. The successful candidate must possess a strong commitment to student learning and will be receptive to using active and engaged teaching methods and technology in the classroom. In addition, candidates should demonstrate an interest in the mission of the comprehensive community college concept.

Job Duties:

  • Teach face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line classes, creating & maintaining a welcoming classroom environment that is conducive to learning and student engagement. Courses will feature one or more technical subjects such as residential electricity, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, industrial maintenance, etc. 
  • Candidate should have the ability to coordinate the GOTS technical degree program.
  • Utilize the Learning Management System (Blackboard Ultra) to support classroom instruction and management when needed.
  • Assist in the development, assessment, and revision of the GOTS curriculum.
  • Mentor students career choices and recruitment efforts.
  • Use effective teaching methodologies and regularly update course content and teaching strategies.
  • Provide accurate and informative syllabi to communicate student expectations and establish mutual respect.
  • Actively communicate student expectations, deadlines, and provide feedback on completed work.
  • Maintain 8-10 regular office hours.
  • Serve on college committees, participate in college events and activities, and assist in data reporting processes upon request. Sponsor student clubs and organizations when possible.
  • Provide external service to the community.
  • Perform incentivized training for community employers (additional compensation).
  • Participate in professional development activities and seek continuous professional improvement.
  • Pursue educational leadership opportunities.
  • Attend departmental meetings and assist with departmental activities.
  • Travel to local high schools to teach dual-credit courses as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on institutional need. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two-year college degree in welding with AWS certification in welding, or two-year degree in industrial, electrical, or mechanical engineering with two or more years’ relevant work.
  • Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement events and day-to-day operations/duties.
  • Demonstrates and facilitates team spirit in department and community.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree in industrial engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering preferred.
  • Experience with residential electricity, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, industrial maintenance, etc. preferred.
  • Two or more years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level preferred.
  • Training experience or teaching experience.

Additional Skills Requested:

  • Journeyman status in a trade would be preferred.
  • The ability to teach online, face to face and other modalities.
