Job Description

WORK SCHEDULE

40 hours per week. May work variable work hours to meet performance requirements (e.g., proposal and reporting deadlines, collaborations, and lab and field data collections), including occasional night and weekend hours.

SUMMARY

Provide scientific support for the planning and execution of specialized research described in grants, proposals, and other legal agreements in accomplishment of USAARL’s Injury Biomechanics mission. Support team-based research, analysis, and investigations in collaboration with Government personnel and external partners. Responsible for documentation and reporting requirements for research activities, to include all materials and record-keeping required for regulatory and safety compliance. Facilitate communication, accountability, coordination, and scheduling of data, resources, personnel, and available facilities to ensure project and programmatic goals are achieved in a timely manner against project and programmatic timelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Independently perform laboratory procedures, testing, and other scientific and administrative tasks for research in Injury Biomechanics based on broad guidance, taskers, objectives, and/or SOPs and individual initiative. All aspects of RDT&E are included, but particularly Human Subject Research, Research Not Involving Human Subjects (RNIHS), and cadaveric research.
  • Facilitate RDT&E efforts, maintain Group schedules/calendars (project, planning, execution, travel, scheduling, training, research submission deadlines, equipment calibration, internal research planning meetings, etc. as requested by research teams), financial and suspense calendars, purchasing schedules and logs, and listing of internal and external taskers and deliverables to ensure suspense dates are met.
  • Provide technical data entry services that require focus, accuracy, and critical and independent judgment related to scientific and engineering data entry, organization, and defining data relationships within Injury Biomechanics to fulfill research project and program requirements and meet timelines. Data may be in hardcopy or in modern electronic formats. 
  • Perform such duties and responsibilities independently based on broad guidelines, objectives, and SOPs provided by the Government and/or created by individual initiative to organize, digitize, scan, and check the quality of scientific, medical, and engineering data.
  • Perform other data-related and research equipment/facilities support functions, including physical packing, moving, shipping, inventory, relocation, and re-organization, as needed.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties may be assigned.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree prefer degree in engineering related field such as electrical, biomedical, mechanical, biomechanics, physics, etc.
  • Must have a minimum 4 years of experience in biomedical engineering, safety, or clinical environment.
  • Experience in laboratory procedures, testing and research activities.
  • Requires proficient use of computers and general office equipment (45-50 words per minute, 10 key numeric pad, 6000 kph; and long periods of use).
  • Knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of various software packages, e.g. Microsoft products (Office, Excel, Access, Outlook, Explorer) and Acrobat.
  • Experience with medical terminology and research.
  • Must be able to read, understand and execute techniques and procedures within the quality standards and timelines prescribed by the research plan.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid secret security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and initiatives at one time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a solid understanding of Government contracting and the professional services industry.
  • Strong computer skills with advanced knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work to ensure quality.
  • Proven ability to exercise mature judgment – specifically in recognizing and respecting the confidential nature of corporate and personnel matters.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequent sitting, standing, walking, lying down or to be or remain in a position or state of inactivity. Lift and carry 50 lbs. individually and as a part of a team lift and carry operation; use hand tools to assemble and disassemble equipment, instrumentation, and test devices; climb and descend equipment, test devices, military vehicles, steps, or ladders. WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed primarily in an office and /or laboratory setting. Laboratory environment includes human testing, so exposure may include but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogens, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals, fumes, vapors, communicable diseases, etc. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities, and abilities.
