The Team has worked on a wide variety of projects throughout the Midwest, from local roads to large-scale interstate and bridge construction.

Requirements

  • Up to 3 years of experience in environmental science/wetland studies is preferred.
  • Possess some level of plant identification skills and wetland delineation training and/or experience.
  • Understanding of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and the ability to translate those skills to prepare state-level environmental compliance documents (modeled after NEPA) primarily for transportation sector projects.
  • Experience working on projects with the Indiana or Illinois Departments of Transportation is desirable, but not required.
  • Experience working with GIS platforms is preferred.
  • The ability to work in and around a variety of landscapes, including ditches, bridge embankments, roadway slopes, and other obstacles for long hours in varied weather conditions.
  • Some travel is required. Applicants should be able to regularly travel (day and overnight trips) to complete field investigations. Travel amounts will vary depending on workload but will mostly occur during the growing season (March-October).

Responsibilities

This position will work closely with the Environmental Team Leaders and Senior Environmental Science staff to lead and/or assist with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Conduct desktop research and field work (as necessary) to complete NEPA documents, prepare planning and policy documents, or permitting applications, as required by federal, state, or local agencies, with direction by senior environmental staff.
  • Interpret technical information and produce high-quality written work with attention to detail.
  • Interact with clients, staff, KEG management, and subconsultants, as necessary.
  • Obtain certification in INDOT’s NEPA, CE, and Bat Investigations training courses within a year of being hired.
  • Use ArcGIS platforms and applications to develop and manage GIS data, analyses, designs, and map production.
  • Ensure project quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met.
