REPORTS TO:

Corporate Safety Manager / Manager of Human Resources

DESCRIPTION:

Support Safety Manager coordinator in safety, and support industrial nurse for drug screen and first aid. This position is charged with post safety incident investigations, improvement plans, and preventions. Performs routine administrative duties including maintaining schedules, filing, charts and graph preparations and performs other activities requiring communication and coordination with other departments in support of safety, health and human resources activities.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Investigate safety incidents, near miss incidents, and occupational injuries, and make recommendations for improvement and circulates reports.
  • Schedule and maintain records of all safety training including HMIS, Blood borne Pathogens, CPR, First Aid, Lockout/Tag out, Emergency Evacuation, confined spaces, Ergonomics and any other related programs.
  • Conduct all safety testing on a special basis.
  • Support application for all safety permitting compliance with local, state and federal guidelines.
  • Establish target areas and long-range accident prevention and cost-control objectives.
  • Coordinate employee orientations, employee assistance and other employee-related programs.
  • Explain company and governmental rules, regulations and procedures, and need for compliance to all levels of employees.
  • Support the Industrial Nurse in providing work related clinical services to employees as well as necessary drug screenings.
  • Schedule KNA first aid responders' classes, and maintain the list of first aid responders by department and shift.
  • Support the implementation, achievement, and maintenance of the Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Determine and prioritize business correspondence, memos, schedules, and other data, including forms, graphs and copies and distributes.
  • Issue and maintain records of related personal safety equipment including safety glasses, and steel toe shoes.
  • Attend and record minutes of employee safety committee, manager safety committee, and ergonomics meetings and distributes.
  • Review all incoming Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and update the system.
  • Perform safety audit and report accordingly.
  • Support the implementation, achievement, and maintenance of Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Create weekly headcount report.
  • Must be able to work any shift and overtime as required to support production.

Education:

  • BS Degree or High School Education or GED.

Experience:

  • 1 to 3 years Safety experience, preferably in manufacturing or an industrial environment.
  • 1 to 3 years of Human Resources experience

Skills:

  • Ability to work independently in absence of supervision.
  • Ability to operate modern office equipment, including computers and various software applications.

Travel Requirement:

  • May be required to travel on company business.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  • The overall nature of the position requires constant light physical exertion with minimal physical effort frequently required.
  • There is constant exposure to environmental noises and hazards, frequent exposure to extreme cold, extreme heat, temperature changes and wet conditions, and occasional exposure to humidity and other atmospheric conditions.

Other:

  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees.
