Position: IT Security (Specialist)

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mid-Level IT Security Specialist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in information technology coupled with comprehensive knowledge and experience in cybersecurity practices and methodologies. The primary responsibility will be to ensure the security and integrity of our organization's IT infrastructure, systems, and data. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in implementing, maintaining, and upgrading security measures to protect our organization against potential cyber threats and attacks.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain IT security policies and procedures in accordance with industry best practices and compliance requirements.
• Conduct regular security assessments, audits, and penetration testing to identify vulnerabilities and address potential risks proactively.
• Manage and oversee the operational aspects of vulnerability management, detection, and remediation, including implementing and monitoring security controls and tools for effective threat mitigation.
• Monitor network and system activities to ensure early detection and response to security breaches and intrusions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement security solutions that align with business objectives and IT infrastructure requirements.
• Manage and configure security tools and software, including Microsoft 365 Enterprise Security, M365 Defender, and modern MDR (Managed Detection and Response) solutions, to ensure effective and efficient operation of security protocols.
• Coordinate with Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) for incident response, threat hunting, and managing security events.
• Provide technical expertise and support for resolving complex security issues and incidents, including investigating and documenting security breaches.
• Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity trends, threats, and technologies, particularly in the context of M365 security solutions, to continually improve the organization's security posture.
• Train and educate staff on security protocols and best practices, particularly in the context of M365 security, to promote a culture of security awareness and compliance within the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Location: This hybrid position is based in Karuna’s Boston HQ. Percentage onsite: 80% and percentage remote: 20%.
• Industry-recognized certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA are required.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in cybersecurity roles and a proven track record of implementing and managing security solutions in a complex IT environment.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 Enterprise Security, M365 Defender, and modern MDR solutions is essential.
• Strong operational skills in vulnerability management, detection, and remediation.
• Familiarity with working with Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) for security operations and incident response.
• Demonstrated experience with risk assessment, compliance management, and security incident response.
• Extensive knowledge of networking protocols, firewall configuration, and intrusion detection systems.
• Proficiency in conducting security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong commitment to staying current with industry trends and developments in cybersecurity, particularly in the context of M365 security solutions.
• Excellent verbal and written skills, allowing for an open and effective dialogue throughout the company.
• Attention to detail and quality are critical to success.
• Highly accountable for the results and outcomes of their responsibilities and understands the impact of their efforts, results, and attitudes on others.
