Part-Time Director Position

Overview

Parkview Cooperative Preschool seeks an organized, motivated, and dedicated administrator to join our community as a part-time Director beginning July 1, 2024.

To provide play-based learning for all children with an emphasis on socialization, exposure to diversity, and interaction with caring adults in a collaborative community environment that prepares students for future education.

To participate in a community where students and families of all backgrounds learn and grow together through volunteerism and socialization.

Background
Parkview is a play-based, cooperative preschool which enrolls children ages two through five years old in the Midtown-area of Indianapolis, Indiana. Applicants must be comfortable working in a cooperative setting that promotes a play-based curriculum enabling children to grow emotionally, intellectually, socially and physically.

Position Requirements

  • Previous co-op experience as a parent or teacher preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field (e.g., education, management, etc.)

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide executive, operational leadership consistent with the school’s current and future vision.
  • Negotiate Parkview’s lease and/or relocation, when needed.
  • Lead the annual contract process including drafting, presenting, and securing teacher contracts in consultation with the President and Treasurer.
  • Maintain records and filing compliance with ICPC.
  • Manage the hiring and dismissal processes and lead the hiring committee for filling staff vacancies.
  • Assist with policy development and application, such as the Parkview Pandemic Policy.
  • Serve as a partner in Parkview’s community inclusion initiatives.
  • Provide consistent school support, especially to presidents and teachers, through school years and board transitions.
  • Act as the point of contact between the landlord, school, and other external stakeholders.
  • Conduct annual teacher evaluations, providing written reports, and scheduling meetings with individual teachers.
  • Distribute bi-annual member family surveys and compiling results into a written report provided to the Board and teachers.
  • Provide arrangements for appropriate substitute teachers, when needed, and/or fill in as a substitute teacher if no other substitute can be arranged.
  • Support Parkview’s fundraising goals, specifically by seeking grants and corporate donations.
  • Attend the following meetings and events:
  • Monthly Member Meetings, as requested by President
  • Two (minimum per semester) President/Executive Board meetings; more may be requested by President
  • Two (minimum per semester) monthly Teacher meetings per semester; more may be requested by President and/or teachers
  • Annual Kick-off Meeting, Executive Board Summer Transition Meeting, and ICPC Executive Board Training
  • Annual school events - Parkview 500, Bunny Hop and Open House

Compensation and Details

  • Annual contract runs July 1-June 30. Intent to commit to a minimum of two years as Director of Parkview is expected.
  • Attendance at meetings and events is expected to generally be in-person. Most administrative tasks, however, can be completed remotely. Director should plan to check in on site at least once every two weeks for face to face time with staff and members.
  • Base salary is $4,000 annually with additional compensation calculated for experience.
  • The Director will be expected to comply with all requirements of member families and teachers such as CPR certification, TB testing, COVID-19 vaccination, and limited background check.
