Position Summary:

This Engineering Technician Associate position is the entry level for the Engineering Technician class series and is located in Topeka, KS and is within the Bureau of Construction and Materials. This position assists in the collection of pavement condition data for the different surveys that are conducted for pavement manage and participates in the Network Optimization System (NOS) Survey as a field collection assistant. The Engineering Technician Associate drives and operates the LCMS van which is a full-size Ford Van with several computers controlling the various collection systems. This position will be required to travel four days a week for six consecutive months.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performing traffic control for the deflection survey, including following KDOT’s procedure for traffic control, taking care of your assigned equipment, setting up temporary traffic signs and cones, and driving support trucks and pilot car. This position may be required to oversee the traffic control setup.
  • Participating as a nonlead worker in the pavement surface condition survey. This includes tasks such as driving specialized test equipment daily, operating a computer to collect pavement condition data, assisting lead worker with daily equipment checks and troubleshooting, and following proper collection guidelines when operating test equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle for ten hours per day.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in survey data collection.
  • Proficient in Windows and MAC operating systems.

Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements:

  • This position is subject to pre-employment physical testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.
