Kansas City Public Schools is Hiring a Summer Program Swim Instructional Traine Near Kansas, MO

Provided leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation and improvement of specific sport coached.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Serve as assistant coach for 4 high school swim teams.

2. Assist in implementing athletic standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions;

3. Assume head coach duties if one or more head coaches are absent;

4. Assist with all swim meets hosted by KCPS;

5. Help provide information for transportation, facilities, officials and game management;

6. Help organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis with the objective of developing the student-athlete’s greatest potential;

7. Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of the best training and injury management procedures;

8. Conduct team and self in an ethical manner during practices and contests, always exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship;

9. Work with high school swimmers conditioning during off season. (Girls during boys season, and Boys during girls season);

10. Continue professional growth through clinics and professional publications;

11. Must successfully complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses;

12. Serve as middle school swim instructor/coach;

13. Work with swim coordinator to actively recruit 7th and 8th grade students from feeder middle schools;

14. Teach/Coach middle school students 2 days a week during the Girls swim season;

15. Coach middle school students up to 2 months after the end of the Girls season (2 days a week);

16. Work with participating districts for potential swim get-togethers and possibly host one;

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student-athletes

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

1. Must have a Teachers Certificate or valid Substitute Certificate or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.

2. Extensive knowledge in aquatics, stroke development, and water safety.

3. Possess a current CPR/First aid certification. (or obtain within 2 weeks of starting the position)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Be a full or part-time employee in the District.

2. Employed in the school as a teacher or administrator in which the candidate applies for a position.

3. Lifeguard Certified

4. WSI Certified
