Job PurposeThe Grounds Keeper performs grounds duties as assigned including maintenance, snow removal, concrete/asphalt work, tree trimming, grounds/landscaping projects, parking lot maintenance, traffic signage, leaf removal, drainage area maintenance, grounds equipment repair, and other grounds related activities in support of all Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) locations.Position Description

  • Maintains the grounds, landscaping, and other exterior surrounding areas, etc.
  • Facilitate natural grass and artificial turf maintenance including fertilization, pesticide application, irrigation repair and install, and repair and replace artificial turf.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair various types of engines and landscape equipment, both gas and diesel engines, including but not limited to replacing bearing, carburetors, belts, and complete engine replacement.
  • Operate various tools and equipment as needed, including but not limited to skid steers, excavators, forklifts, chainsaws, jackhammers, sod cutter, concrete saws and grinders, dump trucks, and snowplows.
  • Assist the Grounds & Services Manager with special projects, events, and implementation of best practices such as outdoor construction projects, plant & sod installation, concrete sidewalks, patios, roads, retaining walls, sheds, and other small outbuildings.
  • Help with set-ups and tear downs for events as needed.
  • Document all work performed within Equip ID & CMMS system.
  • Assist the Grounds & Services Manager in supporting a safe campus environment as well as performing work in a safe manner.
  • Ability to perform routine preventative maintenance as directed by the Grounds & Services Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of how to use and operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment found in large facilities.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance.
  • Attention to detail to keep a clean and professional landscape.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Position Qualifications and/or Education

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must have and maintain a current valid driver’s license and a clear motor vehicle record.

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Grounds maintenance related experience.
  • Two (2) years of mechanical and carpenter experience.
  • Diploma or course work in any building trade.
  • Experience in pesticide use.

Work ScheduleMonday through Friday 6:00 A.M. – 2:30 P.M. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours, including during inclement weather, with a max of 29 hours a week.To Apply
