Kansas Athletics Inc is Hiring a Landscape Maintenance Near Lawrence, KS

Position Summary:

The Landscape Maintenance Worker is responsible for the daily inside and outside maintenance of fields, grounds and facilities around Kansas Athletics. This position may be requested to assist in setting up for practices and events, event cleanup and maintenance as directed by the Landscape Supervisor, for Athletics events as well as outside sponsored events.

Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:

  1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics, and NCAA policies and procedures;
  2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules, and procedures;
  3. Foster cooperative working relationships with fellow staff members within the Department;
  4. Support the athletics department goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values;
  5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and in working with other staff members;
  6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road;
  7. Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  1. Performs daily grounds maintenance of athletics facilities including, but not limited to, mowing, edging, seeding/fertilizing, leaf and snow removal, laying sod, weed control, and landscaping;
  2. Performs daily quality inspections of stands, concourse restrooms, and operations spaces;
  3. Performs daily and periodic cleaning of storage and workspace areas to ensure they are clean and well organized;
  4. Monitors grounds/maintenance supplies and makes requests to supervisor;
  5. Repairs and maintains maintenance and athletic equipment, fences, storage buildings, and various other items, as appropriate;
  6. Operates multiple types of equipment and machines, including but not limited to, fork lifts, trucks, trailers, push mowers, rotary mowers, aerators, sod cutters, hand tools, table saws, routers, golf carts, walk behind scrubber, riding scrubber/sweeper, paint machine, field sweeper, weed eaters, edgers, scissor lifts, skid loaders and cherry pickers;
  7. Assists in event cleanup and maintenance and in the coordination of event cleanup groups;
  8. Assists inside maintenance workers as requested;
  9. Assists in the setup and teardown for practices and events;
  10. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Landscape Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent;
  • Ability to safely operate multiple types of machinery and equipment , including mowers, forklifts, tractors, scissor lifts and cherry pickers;
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and over an extended period of time;
  • Ability to perform strenuous work in extreme hot and cold temperatures for prolonged periods of time;
  • Ability to kneel, bend, squat, or twist for long periods of time;
  • Valid driver’s license;
  • Ability to work an irregular and extended schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays related to scheduled events.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years experience in landscape maintenance.

Annual Base Salary: $15.89 per hour ($33,000 yearly estimate plus overtime hours eligibility); Salaried Non-Exempt; Paid Monthly (12 pay periods).

Work Environment

This job operates in both a professional office environment and outside at KAI related events, including inclement weather. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to: cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.

Travel

Travel is not expected for this position.

Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the sports programs and as job duties demand. Early morning, evening and weekend work is sometimes required.
