Kankakee County Health Department is Hiring a Contractual Grant Programs Specialist Near Kankakee, IL

POSITION: Contractual Grants Program Specialist

SALARY: $21.00 per hour (35-40 hours per week based on workload)

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Associate degree in public health, health promotion, community health, social work, education, administration, counseling, psychology, nursing, or related field with preference for those pursuing or who have completed a bachelor’s degree in the previously mentioned field.

JOB DUTIES: Provides education and outreach to healthcare providers, school staff, community-based organizations, social service agencies, parents, and individual adolescents on the importance of adolescent health and WellCare visits.

· Conducts Smoke-Free Illinois Act (SFIA) compliance checks of public places and places of employment in Kankakee County (including checking for signage, ashtrays, documenting witnessed smoking violations, and completing community education to correct and raise awareness of SFIA.

· Works with the Public Information Officer to develop health promotion social media posts for the Adolescent Health Program, Well Womens Grant and the Illinois Tobacco-Free Communities Grant.

· Accurately records all activities and data measures for multiple programs.

Performs appropriate tasks and reporting on Adolescent Health Grant

· Researching and assisting in presentations on women's health topics for the community

·Assistance in the distribution of Well Women Mini totes

· Outreach and education on Well Women topics to staff and community members

· Performs other duties as assigned and appropriate emergency response duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions with ability to read and interpret written information
  • Possess ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Possess genuine respect for others and acceptance of their individual social and cultural traits.
  • Ability to create presentations and provide education to small and large groups.
  • Ability to effectively interact, establish and maintain working relations with staff and with person from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills reflecting clarity and diplomacy and the ability to communicate accurately and effectively with all levels of staff and management.
  • Computer knowledge and typing, including Microsoft word package
  • Ability to maintain detailed records and reports according to guidelines of appropriate programs
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize when needed
  • Ability to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively
  • Experience and work ethics that support working within a high functioning team-oriented environment
  • Ability to attend professional meetings, conferences, trainings, educational presentation, and other grant-specific opportunities.
  • Current Illinois Drivers license. Personal vehicle for use in carrying out required duties. Auto liability insurance is mandatory. Demonstrates ability to carry a minimum of 15 pounds

Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, enthusiasm, and willingness to cooperate while working with other in multi-disciplinary teams and organizations Requires vision adequate to read and analyze written and printed documents. Requires hearing and speech skills adequate to answer telephone calls and to communicate with clients and staff. Requires manual dexterity to perform typing and diagnostic screenings. Requires ability to follow verbal and written directions or orders. Current Illinois Drivers license. Personal vehicle for use in carrying out required duties. Auto liability insurance is mandatory. Demonstrates ability to carry a minimum of 15 pounds.
