Kam-Way Transportation, Inc. is Hiring a Planner/Dispatcher Near Blaine, WA

Reporting to the Customer Service Manager, this role is an integral part of the operations department. The role is responsible for maximizing driver earnings, reducing empty miles, and retaining drivers with Kam-Way Dedicated, working with Dispatchers.

This position is located at our corporate office in Blaine, WA (appx 100 miles north of Seattle) This is NOT a remote position.

Schedule:

Full time: Friday through Tuesday with Wednesday and Thursday off

What your Day Looks Like:

  • Come to work on time as per your schedule.
  • Every morning analyzes the previous day’s loads and drivers. Review to see all has gone smoothly and Dispatchers have keyed in all the required fields in TMW including accessorial. If needed take appropriate action.
  • Effective communication with the drivers, understanding their needs and working schedules to maximize their earning potential. Target 10K miles and $22 K.
  • Pre-plan loads 24-48 hours ahead based on driver’s needs and mileage requirements, minimizing deadhead miles below 8% ideally.
  • Ensure that the Dispatchers sends out all dispatches for the following day by 2 pm.
  • Assist the Dispatchers as needed daily to have a smooth load delivery.
  • Coach and mentor, the Dispatchers on daily basis to create future planners for Operation.
  • Ensure google doc for their area of responsibility is accurate and UpToDate.
  • Advise Account Executives 24 -to 48 hours ahead to book needed loads. Also move loads to Carrier Sales loads not needed by fleet 24-48 hours in advance.
  • Manage the Reefer Van trailer pools at all the company yard along with customers facilities & make sure trailers are being utilized efficiently and minimize dwelling.
  • Ensure that all trailers dropped have full reefer fuel, cleaned by drivers and not damaged. Pre-cool reefer if requested by customer.
  • Participate in the weekly compliance meetings and discipline dry van drivers as needed.
  • Maximize driver retention, and work towards good drivers who do not leave Kam-Way.
  • Coordinate with KWT Shops to timely repair and service assets, reducing time.
  • Inform operations supervisor about any OTRs so that KWT shops can get the asset moving with minimum down time.
  • Work with fleet team to see if they need help with their loads.
  • At the end of the day review all load dispatches, and next days dispatches for accuracy and assignments.
  • Be on call in the afterhours when they call and support them as needed.
  • Reply to all payroll emails within 15 mins.
  • Reply to all CSR team emails within 15 mins.
  • Update all loads with correct trailer numbers and if there is P1 on the trailer work with maintenance to resolve the issue before pushing out the date.

Weekly

  • Onboard all new drivers and work with them for one week before passing them on to the Driver Managers.
  • Review beaming reports done by Dispatchers and train them how to interpret them.
  • Run the driver KPI report to make sure they are operating optimally under the provided guidelines of $22.5k revenue and 10k Miles.
  • Driver performance review & making sure Dispatchers are talking weekly to drivers.
  • Work with Sales/Carrier Sales as needed to reduce empty miles and cover extra loads.

Key Performance Indicators:

1. Daily supervision of Dispatchers and how they perform their task.

2. Ensure all drivers hit their mileage and revenue targets and discuss with Director of Operations the detailed report and findings.

3. Driver retention for dry van fleet drivers

4. Ensure dry van fleet is achieving the budgeted monthly targets and discuss with Director of Operations at month end.

5. Monthly Dispatcher performance evaluations for the team.
