We are looking for Integration Engineer - Automation & Process Improvement to join the Kaiser Aluminum team in Spokane Washington!

The Integration Engineer - Automation & Process Improvement (IE) plays a critical element in developing new systems, augmenting existing systems, and supporting the support groups that support mill operations. The IE works as part of the Automation Team to lead/participate in the design, plan, and execution of new control systems and the integrating of new equipment and systems into the mill. In addition, the IE shows/participates in Continuous Improvement initiatives to augment and improve existing systems through projects, programming, and hardware modernization. The IE is a subject matter expert in the control systems utilized by the mill, acting as a resource to troubleshoot and diagnose complex control systems and the interactions of multiple systems, from sensors, to control devices, to operator interfaces, to higher-level systems.

What you will be supporting:

Extensive Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) experience/abilities, including:

  • Control System Design: The individual should be able to design/develop/enhance new/existing heavy industrial production equipment systems. The hardware design elements include specification, ordering, configuring, commissioning, and troubleshooting of Allen-Bradley PLCs from PLC5 to current generation ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and GuardLogix. The software design elements include creating programs following standards and organizing and structuring programs, tasks, routines, tags, and UDTs. Creating, modifying, and maintaining PLC logic in structured text, sequential function charts, and ladder logic.
  • PLC Code Development: The individual should be able to develop PLC logic from the text of a functional description, legacy logic, or stakeholder descriptions and create/edit/maintain/document logic to achieve safety, quality, production, reliability/supportability objects.
  • Extensive Wonderware InTouch Human Machine Interface and Inductive Automation Ignition experience/abilities, including:
  • Operator Interface Design from customer description or existing system, be able to design/develop/enhance new/current systems of heavy industrial production equipment. The hardware design elements include specification, ordering, configuring, commissioning, and troubleshooting the hardware necessary to support operator interfaces, including stand-alone industrial computers, thin-clients, Zero Clients, RDP Clients, and legacy systems.
  • HMI Code Development from the text of a functional description, legacy logic, or stakeholder description. Ability to create/edit/maintain/document logic to achieve safety, quality, production, reliability/supportability objects.
  • Experience and competency with creating/editing/maintaining/documenting AVEVA/Archestra/Wonderware InTouch HMI versions 9.5 to 2020.

What you will bring to the position:

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent automation relevant degree, such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, automation focused Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics engineering or associate's degree in above fields.
  • Five plus (5 ) years related manufacturing systems engineering experience working directly for a manufacturing industry or systems integrator.

  • Flexibility and ability to work collaboratively within a matrix environment.
  • Must be able to make sound decisions based on incomplete information, while under pressure, and while maintaining project focus.

  • Delegate responsibilities effectively.
  • High comfort level working in a diverse environment.

Work Environment:

  • Approximately 75% of the job function is performed in an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. 25% of the job function is required in the plant. There is exposure to operating machinery and a manufacturing environment.
