State & Local Tax Supervisors within our State and Local Tax practice manage a variety of projects related to our clients’ State and Local tax needs. State & Local Tax Supervisor will be responsible for the following:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interact with clients demonstrating a deep knowledge of state and local income tax (SALT) compliance and strategies, assist in identifying client issues and conflicts; proactively communicate solution options to clients;
  • Demonstrate technical expertise in one or all of the SALT practice areas including gross receipts, income/franchise, sales/use;
  • Create and/or review spreadsheets for various SALT projects;
  • Identify, design, and implement tax planning strategies to minimize taxes and reduce tax compliance burdens;
  • Assist with the preparation and review of Nexus Studies; 
  • Update the firm’s apportionment schedule templates and other multi-state charts on an annual basis;
  • Draft technical documents/memoranda regarding conclusions in taxability, sales sourcing, and nexus;
  • Monitor changes in state laws, including changes in nexus rules, sales tax application, apportionment formulas, sales factor sourcing rules, combined versus separate states, consolidated elections, water’s-edge and worldwide elections, state DRDs, PTET and state rates.

 Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant advanced degree (MST, JD)
  • Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related degree
  • CPA, JD or EA certification required or are in progress.
  • 3 – 5 years of technical tax experience in public accounting, or related field
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in multi-state tax issues with an understanding of all states’ tax schemes, including differing sourcing rules and the mechanics of each states’ income and franchise tax statutes.
  • Property Tax, payroll tax, credits and incentives and other indirect tax experience is a plus.
  • Self-starter with the initiative to seek out opportunities and ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, high pressure environment; 
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing both internally and externally;
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to convey technical information to a range of audiences in a convincing manner;
  • Ability to work under pressure in stressful circumstances and deescalate situations; 
  • Proficient use of applicable technology and research tools.

We are looking for a candidate to work full time. Normal hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with increased hours during our peak season: January through April and August through October. These periods require increasing normal weekly hours, which may include weekends.
