Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim, an historic and growing 500-family congregation in downtown Charleston, SC is seeking a part time (16 - 20 hours/week) Porter/Custodian to help provide a clean, safe and organized campus for congregants and visitors. A positive and friendly daily attitude is essential. Experience in the hospitality industry would be very helpful for this position.

Reports to: Facilities Director

Work Schedule: 2 Positions available.

Split shift to offset weekend. Flexibility on weekdays.

Shift 1: Sunday 8AM – 4PM, Monday & Tuesday 9AM-1:30PM

Shift 2: Wednesday, Thursday, & Saturday 9AM – 1PM, Friday 4pm-9pm

Wage: $19-23/hour commensurate with experience

Effective Date: Position’s available immediately

Specific Duties include:

• Performs custodial tasks including sweeping, dusting, mopping, and vacuuming carpets and floors.
• Cleans and stocks restrooms.
• Collects trash and recycling for proper disposal.
• Sets up event space for dinners, meetings, and social functions.
• Assists caterers and other food staff with event food service and clean up.
• Other duties as assigned by Executive Director and Facilities Director.

Required Skills:

• Must be able to follow directions, both written and verbal.
• Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
• Must interact with congregants and visitors in a friendly and positive manner.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

• 2 years of experience in custodial, housekeeping or hospitality positions.
• Available to work evenings and weekends.
• High School Diploma preferred, but not required.
• Must be able to pass a Federal and South Carolina Background Check.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently lifting 5-10 pounds, occasionally lifting 25-50 pounds.
• Continuously demands vision, hearing, fine motor skills, and speaking. Frequently sitting, standing, walking and carrying. Occasionally bending, lifting, crouching and climbing.
• Work is performed mostly indoors with occasional outdoor work with exposure to heat, humidity, and cold.
