Overview: As a Safety Manager for a top Civil Construction Contractor, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of our workforce and compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards. Your primary responsibility will be to develop, implement, and oversee safety policies, procedures, and programs to mitigate risks associated with construction activities. You will collaborate closely with project managers, site supervisors, and workers to promote a culture of safety and prevent accidents or incidents. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in construction safety management, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing safety concerns.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and Implement Safety Policies and Procedures: Design and implement comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and programs tailored to the specific requirements of civil construction projects. Ensure alignment with local regulations and industry standards.

  2. Conduct Safety Inspections and Audits: Regularly inspect construction sites, equipment, and work practices to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards. Conduct internal audits to assess the effectiveness of safety measures and recommend improvements.

  3. Risk Assessment and Hazard Mitigation: Identify and evaluate potential safety risks associated with construction activities. Develop strategies to mitigate risks and implement controls to prevent accidents, injuries, and property damage.

  4. Provide Safety Training: Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, subcontractors, and other stakeholders involved in construction projects. Topics may include hazard recognition, fall protection, equipment operation, emergency response, and regulatory compliance.

  5. Promote Safety Culture: Foster a strong safety culture within the organization by promoting awareness, accountability, and active participation in safety initiatives. Encourage open communication and feedback regarding safety concerns and incidents.

  6. Incident Investigation and Reporting: Lead investigations into accidents, near misses, and safety incidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence. Prepare thorough incident reports and collaborate with management to implement corrective actions.

  7. Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of relevant safety regulations, codes, and standards applicable to the construction industry. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies, and coordinate with government inspectors as needed.

  8. Emergency Preparedness: Develop emergency response plans and procedures for construction sites, including evacuation protocols, first aid procedures, and communication protocols. Conduct drills and simulations to test preparedness and response capabilities.

  9. Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incidents, and corrective actions. Prepare reports and documentation for internal review and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant certifications preferred.
  • Proven experience in safety management within the construction industry, particularly in civil construction projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and safety management software.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a proactive approach to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced construction environment.
