K-STATE ATHLETICS, INC. / KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY is Hiring a Learning specialist Near Manhattan, KS

K-State Athletics is seeking qualified applicants for a LEARNING SPECIALIST in our Evans Student-Athlete Success Program, which is a full-time, salaried, benefits-eligible position.

An example of job duties includes but are not limited to :

  • Provide intensive academic support to an assigned group of student-athletes. This includes one-on-one tutoring and skill building, evaluating, and monitoring academic plans for students, assisting students in developing self-advocacy skills and self-awareness, providing appropriate referrals to the Student Access Center.
  • Provide interpretation and helps determine need for psychoeducational testing and / or ADHD testing through intake interview, evaluation of previous testing records, information gathering such as working with student one-on-one, and / or obtaining feedback from counselors, coaches, sports psych and / or team physicians.

Interpret all forms of disability documentation and communicate that information to other parties. Schedule all testing appointments and complete all paperwork for testing including referral forms, payments, and requests to release information.

  • Provide leadership and assistance with the Specialized Learning & Tutorial program. Assist in development of appropriate study strategies / individualized learning strategies
  • Act as the liaison to Student Access Center; coordinate mandated SAC services for specified student-athletes, including clarifying and instructing use of needed support services and accommodations;

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Master’s Degree in special education, educational psychology, academic advising, college student development, curriculum / instruction, or closely related field.
  • Two years working as a learning specialist and / or in closely related position such as a graduate

assistant / intern with time spent with learning specialist program, or in a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Knowledge of diagnostic placement testing / learning assessments and interpretation of disability documentation.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules, and experience working with NCAA student- athletes with documented learning disabilities.

Other Requirements :

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Some evenings and weekends are required
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of

employment
