Overview of the Position Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the Associate Superintendent of Operations (ASO) leads non instructional operating functions that help principals advance student learning. The ASO will: carry out thevision and goals of the Board under the direction of the Superintendent, oversee SFUSD's facilities, student nutrition services, transportation, education placement center, and school portfolio planning departments;provide strategic guidance to the superintendent on ways to improve district operations for schools and students; and collaborate effectively with executive staff, site and central administrators, and the Board of Education in District-wide comprehensive policy planning and policy implementation initiatives. The Associate Superintendent will be part of a ten-person cabinet that advises the superintendent and makes critical decisions about the strategic direction of the district. The District is currently undertaking a multi-year effort to focus its activities, resources, and teams so that they are better aligned with our board-approved, five-year, student outcomes-focused Vision, Values, Goals, and Guardrails. The Associate Superintendent of Educational Services will play a critical role in shepherding theorganization through mindset shifts, and structural changes to best serve its students. As with other senior district leaders, the Associate Superintendent is expected to work in person from the district headquarters in downtown San Francisco every day. The scope of this position and the departments the role supervises may expand over time at the superintendent's discretion. Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate: Commitment to SFUSD's mission to provide equitable educational opportunities and outcomes for all students. Knowledge of urban public school landscapes, including policies, politics, education practices, and funding.
