JWCH Institute is Hiring a Shift Lead LAC-USC Near Los Angeles, CA

LAC-USC Recuperative Care Supportive Housing Services Program is an Interim Housing program that assists homeless, medically compromised individuals to recover and improve their health conditions. These individuals may also suffer from mental health and substance abuse issues, sometimes causing behaviors such as yelling, cussing, and outbursts of anger. The role of each staff at LAC-USC is to assist the client in overcoming barriers and increasing coping skills to decrease negative behaviors.

Position Purpose:

The Supportive Housing Services Shift Supervisor will direct operations, staff, and oversee client services during the shifts when the Program Manager is not on-site and support the program manager in a manner that upholds the JWCH mission to improve the health status and well-being of under-served segments of the population of Los Angeles County through the direct provision of health care, health education, services, and research. This position will ensure smooth and consistent daily operations, providing leadership for the staff teams and modeling trauma-informed approaches to care.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Performs job functions as prescribed by job description, established policies, and agency/facility procedures within the defined scope of education, training, and responsibilities
  • Provides facility oversight during assigned shifts
  • Coordinates with medical staff, maintaining good communication and partnership to ensure appropriate medical care and response to patient needs.
  • Coordinates with Case Managers to ensure the schedule of Life Skills groups and activities to facilitate the rehabilitation and behavioral health of all patients
  • Ensures appropriate and consistent documentation as required during assigned shifts
  • Supports ongoing quality assurance and improvement activities
  • Assists with /attends staff training to ensure high quality program services and facility operations
  • Assists with efforts to assess and improve patient satisfaction regarding facility services and care
  • Participates in and assists with professional development activities

2. Documents pertinent patient information, following established policy and procedures

  • Provides leadership and training during shifts for documentation as required by contract and clinical needs
  • Oversees documentation that is accurate in the electronic medical record, including assessments, ICPs, all referrals made, appointments scheduled, and patient progress toward meeting their goals, behavioral management plans, community transition planning, etc.
  • Documents all data clearly and thoroughly– using name and title, date and time
  • Follows and ensures that all eligible staff follow all DHS and JWCH/Wesley requirements to gain access and utilize the electronic medical record 

3. Maintains confidentiality at all times.

  • Provides leadership to ensure that any patient information is discussed only with appropriate personnel when related to the care being provided,
  • Maintains confidentiality for all documents that contain patient identifier information,
  • Observes and respect confidentiality of information in regard to supervisees and fellow employees.

4. Responsibility and accountability for adherence to organizational and department standards and policy.

  • Observes department and contract guidelines concerning coverage, absences, investigations, and other reports in accordance with agency procedures
  • Self-identifies and supports a system for staff to identify potentially unsafe systems/processes/situations and takes initiative to ensure problem-solving with an appropriate response that is clearly documented
  • Observes department guidelines to conduct personal business during breaks and lunch hours
  • Projects a positive professional image, adheres to organizational dress code and ensures that all staff follows guidelines

5. Participates in organizational and community programs/committees

  • Supports Project Manager with staff meetings as required,
  • Facilitates or participates in all safety programs, which may include involvement or staff assignment to an emergency response team,
  • Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned.

6. Team Work and Interpersonal Skills

  • Demonstrates effective leadership, role modeling working relations and works effectively as with the team to facilitate the organization’s ability to meet goals and objectives,
  •  Demonstrates a willingness to accommodate requirements or changing priorities in the workplace.

Requirements:

  • Current and valid California ID
  • Current BLS card from the American Heart Association
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a healthcare setting, including 1 year supervisory responsibilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Minimum 2 years experience providing services for low-income and/or homeless individuals, including those with disabilities or special needs
  • Demonstrated understanding of the impact of trauma on behavioral and medical conditions
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) ability a plus
