JWCH Institute is Hiring a Medical Assistant- STD Program Near Bellflower, CA

Position Description:
The STD Program Medical Assistant , under the direct supervision of the Clinic Administrator/Designee, will ensure that all clients who walk into the clinic requesting an STD test are registered, tested, and receive their results. Within the regulatory scope of practice, the Medical Assistant assists in the provision of direct patient care by performing routine patient care procedures, technical, and supportive functions in the recuperative care or ambulatory clinic setting. Certain tasks may require prior competency verification before performing.
Principal Responsibilities:
Principal Responsibilities:
  1. Performs all duties that comply with the workflow and procedures for walk-in STD testing:
  2. Attends to clients and assists them with the registration process.
  3. Ensures all data and necessary information are collected to conduct tests.
  4. Assists in specimen collection, such as educating clients on self-collection methods, urine collection, and blood draws.
  5. Tracks all patients who received an STD test.
  6. Ensures patients receive their results by scheduling an appointment with a provider or contacting patients regarding their negative results.
  7. Assists the program manager with data collection and entry and enters client information into the county-required data system.
  8. When no patient presents to the clinic for a walk-in STD test, the medical assistant will float to assist in general clinic operations by performing Medical Assistant duties or assisting where needed.
  9. Performs routine (noninvasive) patient care functions as prescribed by licensed healthcare personnel following established clinic policies and procedures within the defined scope of education, training, and responsibilities.
  10. Collects and records patient data, including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, pulse oximeter, and peak flow measurement, according to established policies and procedures.
  11. Collects urine, sputum, and stool specimens by noninvasive techniques.
  12. Performs lab tests, including finger sticks, after appropriate training and verification of competency.
  13. Administers immunizations and all medications per provider's order after a licensed healthcare professional verifies the correct medication and dosage.
  14. Performs venipuncture and PPD skin placement.
  15. Documents the measurement of PPD skin test and reports information directly to the provider or to the Registered Nurse.
  16. Consistently uses and reinforces proper body mechanics and appropriate personal protective equipment.
  17. Provides basic health information and education to patients using established policies and procedures.
  18. Schedules routine and follow-up appointments.
  19. Documents pertinent patient information, procedures performed, and patient responses, following established policy and procedures:
  20. Assists in the maintenance, care, and handling of medical equipment.
  21. Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned.
Requirements:
  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a current MA certificate
  3. Verification of appropriate hours in approved Medical Assistant course to perform venipuncture
  4. Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association
  5. Two years' experience in an ambulatory clinic preferred
  6. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
