Position Purpose:
The Enrollment Specialist plays an important role in conducting health education and outreach to potential clients, particularly focusing on clients seeking STD testing services at JWCH Wesley Health Centers. The primary duties involve educating individuals on available health coverage programs, facilitating enrollment in coverage options, guiding through application processes, and ensuring ongoing utilization and retention of these services. Furthermore, the Enrollment Specialist is actively involved in fieldwork, requiring a proactive approach to promote access to healthcare and STD services for individuals. An ideal candidate for this role should bring healthcare outreach experience and bilingual skills, making a substantial contribution to our mission of improving community health and well-being.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct group and individual outreach to explain JWCH's clinical services and STD services/programs.
  2. Perform outreach to educate individuals about health care options such as Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, Healthy Kids, Healthy Way LA, and others in diverse settings like Clinic sites, head starts, schools, churches, CBOs, homeless shelters, and health fairs.
  3. Provide comprehensive assistance to all clients with a focus on STD program clients, including in-reach and outreach to target members and support during the application process.
  4. Follow up to verify enrollment and encourage the utilization of health insurance benefits and services.
  5. Offer assistance to members facing challenges during enrollment, advocating on behalf of families, and addressing barriers to enrollment, utilization, and retention.
  6. Support families in enrolling for health care services and help them access and retain these services effectively.
  7. Assist CHDP - Gateway patients in accessing all available services.
  8. Conduct presentations about health care options like Medi-Cal, Healthy Kids, Healthy Families, and Healthy Way LA to community members and other CBOs.
  9. Engage in outreach activities at health fairs and other gatherings.
  10. Maintain records, logs, signing sheets, and necessary documentation to track compliance and evaluate program performance.
  11. Plan and conduct outreach activities in the field, as well as orientation meetings, trainings, workshops, and informational events for childcare providers, schools, and community-based programs, shelters, churches, and other venues.
  12. Be available for evening and weekend work as assigned.
  13. Provide assistance to the supervisor with special tasks or events, including trainings, workshops, special mailings, and material reproduction.
  14. Attend and actively participate in external meetings and events related to scope of work. 
  15. Prepare program reports according to departmental policy and procedures. 
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum of one year of experience in health care outreach and enrollment.
  2. Bilingual- Fluent in both English and Spanish.
  3. General knowledge and understanding of sexual transmitted diseases (STDs)
  4. Possess a current valid California Driver License and Insurance Certificate.
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  6. Must possess a caring and compassionate demeanor.
  7. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  8. Proficiency in working with diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds among clients, patients, and staff.
  9. Certified Application Assistant (CAA) qualification is preferred.
  10. AA Degree in a related field (Public Health, Health-Care Administration, Human Services) preferred.
