Who we are looking for: 

Are you the Assistant Program Director we are looking for? In this role, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with the senior team to ensure the operations of all residential and day programs. You will be a leader to all staff, and will oversee service provision, staffing, program schedules, clinical and medical services, quality assurance activities, and site maintenance. This role requires a blend of leadership skills to ensure provision of well-managed quality services and a deep commitment to the dignity and respect of each individual we serve. 

Berkshire Meadows, located in Great Barrington offers multiple services and programs for individuals with complex and significant medical, intellectual and developmental differences. Programs include a 365-day-a-year residential school for students between the ages of 6 and 21, residential and day habilitation programs for adults, and 24/7 nursing and medical services. Berkshire Meadows operates both in community settings and at a beautiful campus with state-of-the-art equipment and therapy animals, as well as a fully accessible indoor pool. 

JRI provides the support so that: 

  • YOU will plan, manage, and direct consistent with program philosophy and mission. Participate in the Program’s Senior Leadership Administrative Team.
  • YOU will implement program goals and objectives consistent with the annual strategic plan.
  • YOU will remain up to date in the field and continue professional growth through participation in conferences, seminars, and professional and advocacy, maintaining required training and professional certification, and contributing to research and evaluation in the field.
  • YOU will supervise and evaluate certain department heads/directors; and provide training and development opportunities to enhance services and their professional growth.
  • YOU will implement systems, to monitor monitoring the appropriate delivery of all services and quality care in safe and healthful environments.
  • YOU will oversee clinical and medical staff and ensure the availability of direct support, teaching and other operational staffing.
  • YOU will facilitate individual person-centered care/treatment planning for culturally appropriate, congruent and responsive services.
  • YOU will ensure program and service operations are conducted according to policies - safely, consistently, uniformly, and fairly.
  • YOU will ensure that documentation and reporting is done according to policy and regulation.
  • YOU will coordinate systems to ensure a strong response to emergencies or unusual events, including systems that prevent and respond to staff and client injuries or illnesses, and systems for fire and emergency drills.
  • YOU will maintain a cooperative relationship with community healthcare and behavioral health providers.
  • YOU will implement systems for incident review and investigation, according to JRI policies and procedures and the requirements of external bodies.
  • YOU will coordinate administrative, information, and data collection systems that monitor and provide continuous feedback on the quality and effectiveness of services in addressing client needs, program goals and objectives, and contract and fiscal compliance, including client / guardian satisfaction surveys.
  • YOU will ensure all services comply with requirements of licensing, accreditation, and certification standards. Prepare programs, staff and clients for licensing/accreditation/ certification reviews; and that ensure that action steps and violations are handled thoroughly and promptly.
  • YOU will implement program budgets and expenditure plans, developing and monitoring staff schedules to meet contract and funding requirements and client need.
  • YOU will develop collaborative and effective working relationships with staff, clients, families, the wider JRI, public and private funders and human service agencies, consumer and provider advocacy groups, and local community entities.
  • YOU will promote a positive and inclusive work environment where staff members of all backgrounds feel they belong, are included and valued.
  • YOU will maintain administrative and personnel management systems that ensure adequate staffing to meet service and contract requirements and client needs.
  • YOU will implement systems for payroll, recruitment, selection, onboarding and training of staff in compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations; and that insure timely Staff performance evaluations and consistent supervision

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, social work, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • At least three years’ management experience with child or adult special education, congregate care, day habilitation, or residential services.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and electronic platforms). 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex service environments with multi-service sites and diverse clients and staff, including but not limited to diversity of race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation, socioeconomic background, and educational background. 
  • Knowledge of the needs of the populations served and understanding of the range of care and treatment required. 
  • National driving record check, driver’s license confirmation, national criminal background check, DPPC, DDS, and DEEC background checks using fingerprints, and Office of the Inspector General Background check. 
  • Maintain valid driver’s license. 
  • Bilingual Spanish fluency preferred.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work 
  • Ability to be certified in required crisis prevention and intervention training, MAP and in American Red Cross CPR/First Aid. 
  • This position requires travel to JRI sites in other locations and on-call availability.
