Qualifications:

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:

Education:

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at this grade level.

OR

Experience:

You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.

Some examples of this qualifying experience are:

  • Experience in planning production, laying out process steps and specifying equipment for each product work station, which includes cutting, assembling, printing, and packing.
  • Experience assisting with the management and supervision of the production, planning, and scheduling of a manufacturing cycle.
  • Experience overseeing the work performed under contract which includes supervising others, coordinating incoming/outgoing shipments and invoicing and obtaining payment from customers.
  • Experience in ensuring manpower and equipment in the production area are utilized efficiently to meet product specifications and making modifications as required to meet production demands.
  • Experience utilizing an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system such as Systems, Applications and Products (SAP) and spreadsheet application to manage factory products, track orders, provide information to customers concerning products and services, acquire bids for products, schedule delivery dates, and to address customer inquiries and complaints.

If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as number of hours worked per week) spent in the activities.

Responsibilities:

Assist the Factory Manager in the management and supervision of the production factory which employs civilian foremen and inmate workers.

Plans production, lays out process steps and specifies equipment for each product work station, which includes cutting, assembling, printing and packing.

Ensures manpower and equipment in all areas of production are utilized to the maximum and products are manufactured to specifications.

Effectively deals with staff members, the public, and inmates in a fair and impartial manner.

Prepares inmates' progress reports and provides guidance, explanation and interpretation of rules and regulations.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
