The Juneau School District, located in Southeast Alaska, is accepting applications for the position of Director of Operations. JSD has approximately 650 permanent, benefitted positions and 350 hourly/substitute/seasonal staff across 11 sites and multiple departments.

SUMMARY: As a member of the Superintendent's cabinet the Director of Operations is responsible for the dynamic planning, coordinating, and directing many functions for the school district including, advising principals and supervisory staff, a member of the School Board Facilities committee, and manages the school district risk program.

Under the direction of the Superintendent, the incumbent will manage the support staff in Maintenance and Facilities, Operations, Information Technology, Community Schools, and RALLY.

This is an exempt position and is not represented by any bargaining unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, human resource management, public or business administration, the social sciences, or related field from a regionally accredited university.
  • Valid Alaska Administrator's Certificate (Type B) appropriate to Administrator's position at the time Administrator's duties under the contract commence and maintain that certificate while employed pursuant to the contract.
  • Three to five years of successful school management experience.
  • Experience in labor relations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of school law and relevant federal laws.
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Broad knowledge of multiple functional management areas.
  • Knowledge of teacher/staff evaluation systems.
  • Experience with leading change efforts in a large and diverse organization.
  • Background and experience in contract negotiations and labor-related hearings.
ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrated organization and leadership abilities.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication and mediation skills.
  • Successful experience handling disciplinary and grievance procedures.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel.
  • Desire to work as part of a progressive, innovative management team. Computer skills including knowledge of Windows, Google Suite, web-based systems and Microsoft Suite. Comfortable learning specific programs such as Frontline, Infinite Visions and Time Clock Plus.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective time and work management skills.
  • Able to promote continued improvement and efficiency and implement districtwide change smoothly.
  • Understanding the job classification process to oversee and provide guidance for classification of non-certificated positions.
  • Able to develop a diverse workforce that is representative of the Juneau community.
COMPENSATION:

This is a 260-day contract; salary placement is dependent on education and experience. Juneau School District offers an excellent benefit package which includes an employer-sponsored health plan (medical, dental and vision), employer paid life insurance plan, membership in the state retirement plan; an optional tax-deferred TRS retirement plan.
