POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a detail-oriented, thorough, and organized draftsman to join our growing team. In this position, the draftsman will assist in the creation of functional and well-designed products and structures by translating design concepts into accurate construction plans. Under the direction of the General Contractor, the draftsman is responsible for using computer aided design software (SoftPlan) to create detailed drawings and layouts, calculate dimensions and material requirements, and describe production methods within our plansets for remodels and custom home builds. The draftsman will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of our construction plans with regulations and quality standards.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-yr Associates Degree or higher preferred.
  • Prior work experience as a Draftsman or similar role preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with computer-aided design software.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with 3D modeling tools
  • Excellent math skills
  • Ability to read, understand, and explain construction blueprints and floor plans
  • Ability to calculate dimensions and requirements in materials
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to build solid relationships with team members, vendors, and customers
  • Ability to identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal building code regulations
  • Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office; CoConstruct Project Management software experience is a plus; SoftPlan software experience is a plus

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Able to work and communicate well with people of all levels, both in the office and in the field.
  • Conduct client meetings in conjunction with the General Contractor in order to discuss design ideas and progress.
  • Communicate with trade partners as needed to gather product information and structural requirements for designs.
  • Create detailed construction plans with SoftPlan software.
  • Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards.
  • Anticipate problems and proactively come up with solutions.
  • Conduct formal, comprehensive planning meetings to review plans and specs with General Contractor.
  • Meet regularly with General Contractor and others as necessary to review drafting schedule and other project details and updates.
  • Provide regular communication to homeowners during the Design Phase to inform them of progress of their project in order to build and maintain excellent customer service.

Job Type: Full-time (40 hrs/week)
