Metallurgy Lab Inspector

This is a 3rd shift job (11pm - 7am)

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

•Accountable for testing heat treated parts per Met Lab test procedures and Operation Sheet requirements.

•For heat treated retainers, cut out sections, mount, grind, polish and etch parts for metallurgical analysis.

•Using metallography, check case depth measurement on heat treated retainers.

•Visually inspect heat treated retainers.

•Inspect heat treated races for hardness, fracture (grain size check) and mount for verification of proper heat treat.

Mix etchants.

•Check hardness testers daily in the Metallurgical Lab, Heat Treat and Inspection areas.

Other Duties and Accountabilities:

•For ball bearing parts, check hardness and deflection and case depth measurement.

•Visually inspect ball bearing parts.

•Mount ball bearing parts for verification of proper heat treat and to check for effective case depth.

•Record and plot information in databases or charts for all checks performed.

•Test the sediment level (contamination) on submitted parts.•Once testing is complete, locate part order on the floor and provide approval/disapproval per procedure.

•Escalate any issues or nonconformance’s found during testing or inspection.

•Perform housekeeping as necessary to keep work area clean per 5S standards.

•Adhere to company policies and regulations according to safety and environmental issues.

•This is not all inclusive and can change as business conditions change.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

•Must be computer literate.

•Must be able to use part preparation equipment such as grinders and polishers.

•Must be able to use testing equipment such as microscopes, hardness testers and other instrumentation.

Education and Experience:

•High School Diploma, GED or SC Work Keys will be considered.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

•Sitting or standing for long periods of time.

•Lifting up to 40 lbs.

Pay: From $20.02 per hour
