JSSA is Hiring a Summer Camp Counselors Near Rockville, MD
Camp Greentree is a six-week summer day treatment program that offers an intensive diagnostic, therapeutic and recreational experience for approximately fifty selected elementary school age children and six adolescents. The Camp provides a low child: staff ratio to insure adequate professional resources to meet the children's complex needs. The staff, who receive specialized training, are drawn from the fields of psychiatry, psychology, social work, special education, and counseling. Current Openings: Team Games Specialist
Plan a program of developmentally and age-appropriate team games/sports activities for campers daily.
Order, maintain, distribute supplies and materials to support team games/sports activities.
Collaborates with other staff members to implement a program of team games/sports activities.
Attend and participate in treatment planning meetings, staff meetings, and supervision meetings.
Arts & Crafts Leader
Plan a program of developmentally and age-appropriate arts and crafts activities for campers daily.
Order, maintain, distribute supplies and materials to support the arts and crafts activities.
Collaborates with other staff members to implement program of arts and crafts activities.
Attend and participate in treatment planning meetings, staff meetings, and supervision meetings.
Co-Leader Camp Greentree
Work with a partner Co-Leader to provide supervision for an assigned group of campers (8-10) throughout all phases of the camp program.
Plan and provide developmentally and age-appropriate recreational activities for the assigned group of campers.
Plan activity group therapy activities which consistently address the emerging therapeutic and clinical issues as identified by co-leaders and clinical consultants. Regularly consults each camper’s treatment plan when planning these activities.
Provide daily activity group therapy for assigned campers, as well as individual therapeutic interventions as needed
Support Team Member
Provide individual intervention for children requiring specialized attention resulting from behavioral/emotional difficulties, including supervising time outs, implementing/monitoring behavioral contracts, and engaging in one-on-one therapeutic interventions
Maintains documentation regarding each camper’s progress, their ability to make use of support, and their need for individual intervention. Documentation may include daily notes, relevant contact notes and/or a final report.
Provide individual and/or small group support to students (including behavior management and skill-building interventions).
Attend and participate in treatment planning meetings, staff meetings, and supervision meetings.
Position Qualifications (all positions):
Actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as social work, psychology, education, and/or special education from an accredited school, college or university.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in a camp setting or similar child-centered setting (i.e. school or daycare).
Experience working with children experiencing emotional/behavioral challenges in a clinical setting highly preferred.
HOW CHILDREN CAN BENEFIT Children are referred to camp because of significant problems in peer, family and adult relationships. Frequently they have experienced limited success in school and in making friends. Their difficulties usually have been expressed in a variety of behaviors. THE CAMP PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AGES 5-11: In carefully selected groups of six to eight children, whose strengths and problems complement each other, the campers will be involved in a series of therapeutically oriented activities including:
daily group psychotherapy
daily swimming
cooperative games
sports activities
therapeutic arts and crafts
nature experiences
drama, music
surprise special events and guest attractions
weekly field trips
