Data Analyst

Department: Fiber - Fiber Network Design and Implementation Services

Employment Type: Internship

Location: Lubbock, TX

Reporting To: Jim Nelson

Description

We are seeking a Data Analyst Intern who will be responsible for analyzing data to provide information for key management decisions. 
This position requires a self-driven, motivated individual who is willing to collaborate and work within a team atmosphere. Both full-time and part-time candidates will be considered. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Collection: Gathering data from various sources, including databases, spreadsheets, APIs, and other systems.
  • Data Cleaning and Preprocessing: Identifying and correcting errors, handling missing data, and preparing data for analysis by organizing, cleaning, and structuring it.
  • Data Analysis: Using statistical methods and data visualization techniques to interpret and analyze data, identifying trends, patterns, and relationships to extract insights.
  • Report Generation: Creating reports and presentations to communicate findings and insights to stakeholders, often using tools like Excel, Tableau, or Power BI.
  • Dashboard Development: Building interactive dashboards to monitor key metrics and KPIs, allowing stakeholders to track performance and make data-driven decisions.
  • Predictive Modeling: Developing predictive models using machine learning algorithms to forecast future trends or outcomes based on historical data.
  • Data Mining: Identifying patterns and trends in large datasets using clustering, classification, and association rule mining techniques.
  • Database Management: Managing databases to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and trends. 
  • Other tasks as assigned by manager/supervisor.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Candidates working towards a BS or master’s degree in data-related fields preferred.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using analytical tools to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficiency in programming languages is commonly used in data analysis such as Python, R, SQL, or others. 
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib or ggplot2 to create visualizations and communicate findings effectively. 
  • Understanding database systems and querying languages for data retrieval and manipulation.
  • Experience working with databases.
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail in data analysis and reporting to ensure accuracy and reliability of findings. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, share knowledge, and contribute to achieving team goals. 
  • Curious with a continuous learning mindset.
  • Hardworking and self-drive.
  • Able to estimate work requirements and meet goals and deadlines.
  • Follow directions as outlined by the manager and ask clarifying questions when needed.
