JR & Co is Hiring a Crane Operator Near Kansas City, MO

Inspect machines and equipment daily, perform routine maintenance procedures and minor repairs as required and initiate additional repair requests from mechanics when necessary.

  • Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms or lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions or damage.
  • Maintain material moving equipment in good working condition.
  • Inspect cables or grappling devices for wear and install or replace cables, as needed.
  • Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
  • Inspect bundle packaging for conformance to regulations or customer requirements and remove and batch packaging tickets.
  • Direct helpers engaged in placing blocking or outrigging under cranes.
  • Direct truck drivers backing vehicles into loading bays and cover, uncover, or secure loads for delivery. Ensure cargo is properly secured prior to transporting. 
  • Signal others to coordinate vehicle movement.
  • Provide additional support to other crane operators as necessary
  • Control cranes, lifts and other equipment using standard operating procedures to ensure effective transportation of materials and safety for all personnel on site.
  • Move levers, depress foot pedals, or turn dials to operate cranes, cherry pickers, lift trucks, or other moving equipment for lifting, moving, or placing loads.
  • Maintain visual and radio contact with ground operators according to best practices and site safety regulations and respond to questions and instructions clearly and quickly.
  • Maintain and update DOT driver log information daily.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of arithmetic, geometry, measurements, and their applications.
  • Skill necessary to maneuver large mobile equipment within moving traffic or limited access areas.
  • Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Obtain and maintain a Class A or equivalent Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Obtain and maintain required certification for equipment assigned to operate.
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • The ability to judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from you, or to judge the distance between you and an object.
  • The ability to see details at a distance.
  • The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  • The ability to know your location in relation to the environment or to know where other objects are in relation to you.
