Job Description:
Job Summary: The Reg Orthopedic Tech I-IV will assist all health care professionals in the application and management of all surgical and non-surgical castings splinting, and braces in the clinic. This position gives instructions on proper care of casts splints, and braces to patients and their families.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
Obtains and documents accurate and complete vital signs and patient chief complaint or concerns.
Assists in preparing and maintaining clinic readiness including but not limited to chart checks, maintaining neat, orderly, and supplied exam rooms and sets up for procedures as indicated.
Documents accurately in medical records, on forms, and in the computer entering appropriate orders, patient charges, and/or other information.
Assists with appointment scheduling, retrieving and documenting voice mail information from patients accurately in the patient’s medical record and forwarding information and records to the appropriate practitioner, nursing staff, and/or manager/director in a timely manner.
Participates in quality improvement activities.
Consistently and appropriately maintains charges for all clinic visits.
Removes casts, splints and braces as ordered by provider and assists with special procedures and dressing changes.
Participates with education and training of patient, families and significant others regarding orthopedic care and orthotic devices.
Confers with providers in order to formulate specifications and prescriptions for orthopedic and/or prosthetic devices.
- Documents cast and splint placement in the medical record and accurately charges for the supplies and services performed
Applies, adjusts, and removes orthopedic devices.
Trains other non-certified Orthopedic Technologists and clinic staff on proper procedures.
Allows medical students to observe/participate in casting and splinting as instructed by a provider.
Maintains and orders orthopedic supplies and equipment.
Collaborates with providers, clinical staff, and vendors in obtaining and providing appropriate devices, equipment, and supplies.

Qualifications:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Completion of Department Competency Based Orientation and JPS network orientation within 90 days of hire.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification; must be obtained subsequent to hire but prior to providing patient care.
- Current licensure as a Registered Orthopedic Technician from an accredited credentialing body. Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Master Skill Level Registration/Designation from an accredited credentialing body.
