The JPMorgan Chase Institute  (JPMCI) is a global think tank dedicated to delivering data-rich analyses and expert insights to help inform policy makers on how best to advance sustainable, evidence based policy solutions to drive inclusive economic growth. 

Job Summary

As Deputy Head of JPMCI in JPMC’s Research, Policy and Insights team you will work directly alongside both the JPMCI President and Head of Research, Policy, and Insights to manage the Institute. As an ideal candidate, you will have a strong data and research background and, at the direction of the President of the Institute, you will help (1) define and shape the Institute’s book of work and (2) lead and manage external engagement to publicly promote and elevate JPMorgan Chase’s credibility and profile as a thought leader on critical, timely and relevant issues that sit at the intersection of business and policy. To do that, you will cultivate, lead, and manage the Institute’s partnerships with senior leaders across the firm’s lines of business as well as external partners and decision makers who comprise the Institute’s core target audience. 

This position requires a combination of deep research expertise and a proven ability to communicate complex research findings in ways that are digestible to the average reader.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, shape, and manage the Institute’s research portfolio, and ensure JPMCI remains a premier research institution helping key decision makers make more informed decisions 
  • Assess and monitor the competitive landscape to identify opportunities for new and engaging products that meet the needs of JPMCI’s key external stakeholders / audience 
  • Cultivate and manage relationships and ongoing engagements with senior line-of-business leaders to help inform JPMCI’s research agenda and ensure it has deep connectivity to the lines of business
  • Influence the development of products that meet identified needs and research asks e.g., a higher-frequency research product that is relevant to ongoing events in the economy 
  • Facilitate communication between the Institute and other line-of-business research stakeholders
  • Spearhead efforts to promote and elevate JPMCI’s credibility and profile as a thought leader on key issues at the intersection of business and policy 
  • Cultivate and managing relationships with key partners at academic institutions, think tanks, senior government officials, peer corporates, etc.
  • Represent the Institute on prominent panels, as a keynote speaker, and in other highly visible engagements / platforms
  • Serve as JPMCI’s primary contact with firmwide / Corporate Responsibility (CR) Communications to shape the Institute’s narrative and external media and stakeholder engagement strategy for all Institute publications
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors and media outlets (in partnership with the JPMC / CR Comms team) to ensure robust coverage of research findings and thought leadership initiatives 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills: 

  • Advanced degree in relevant field such as economics, public policy, other social sciences, or related disciplines 
  • 15 years of experience working in complex, matrixed organizations such as the government, multi-national corporations or multinational non-governmental organizations 
  • Proven track record of leadership in research or data analytics-focused roles with demonstrated ability to translate complex, often technical topics or processes into digestible, interesting formats for consumption by mass audiences 
  • Extensive experience cultivating and managing relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders across academia and the public and private sectors
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills with ability to negotiate needs and demands of diverse constituencies 
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing the development process for research products from conceptualization to delivery with a focus on generating actionable insights 
  • Strategic and commercial mindset with the ability to go deep and broad on topics/issues, as well as strategically leveraging different platforms/channels to promote organizational thought leadership 

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills: 

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree preferred
