PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Interpreting and Translation Department at Journey’s End offers high-quality, in-person interpretation and document translation services in over 45 languages needed to do business in a global society. These services are ideal for hospitals and medical service providers, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, attorneys and real estate agents, government entities and anyone else seeking to provide services to Limited English Proficient individuals
We coordinate with partner organizations and service providers to run monthly trainings for our 60 per-diem interpreters, provide free “best practices for working with an interpreter” trainings for our diverse customer base, and attend events and networking opportunities with the aim of promoting our services, expanding the network of providers we work with, and recruiting new interpreting candidates.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Journey’s End Interpreters—Perform oral (spoken) communication of a message from one language to another through consecutive interpretation. Interpreters provide spoken language assistance for various agencies and customers in the community as representatives of Journey’s End Refugee Services. Interpreters may also be asked to perform Sight Translation—The oral (spoken) communication of a written text into another language (reading aloud). Interpretation appointments may be in-person, telephonic, or video remote, and typically occur on weekdays during normal business hours.
Journey’s End Translators— Perform written communication of a message from one language to another language. Document translation projects may include birth/marriage certificates, IDs, flyers, surveys, report cards, handbooks, legal and medical documents, and more. Translators must demonstrate superior knowledge of grammar, syntax, spelling, and punctuation in both English and at least one other language. Translators may complete all document translation projects remotely, but must submit translated product by the agreed upon deadline.
Applicants may choose to be an interpreter, translator, or both.
